The inlaycard of the record won't contain the lyrics. Thats what sonybmg representives said at the listening party in germany.

I'm okay with that. Often, reading the lyrics whilst listening to the music for the first time turns your attention away from the music and you try too hard to listen to the message rather than just enjoying the sounds around you.

The lyrical message will get to you in the end.

Can't wait. Here are the lyrics for the title track. A bit vapid by Prince standards:

Only came outside to watch the nightfall with the rain
I heard you making patterns rhyme
Like some new romantic looking for the tv sound
Youll see Im right some other time

Look now, look all around, theres no sign of life
Voices, another sound, can you hear me now?
This is planet earth youre looking at planet earth
Bop bop bop bop bop bop bop bop this is planet earth

My head is stuck on something precious
Let me know if youre coming down to land
Is there anybody out there trying to get through?
My eyes are so cloudy I cant see you

Look now, look all around, theres no sign of life
Voices, another sound, can you hear me now?
This is planet earth youre looking at planet earth

Bop bop bop bop bop bop bop bop this is planet earth

Bop bop bop bop bop bop bop bop calling planet earth

Bop bop bop bop bop bop bop bop looking at planet earth

Bop bop bop bop bop bop bop bop this is planet earth

hmmmm, the lyrics, not to distant, but he's keeping
us wondering as usual, almost inviting a glimpse

cool

VanityFair

my take on Planet Earth:

all of these sudden out-of-no-where gossippy bits/arguments (is sheila pregnant? is chelsea rodgers their lost daughter? was she a stripper? will guitar fail? blah blah blah) is a very small part of an online publicity campaign. it gets everybody gossiping and excited/passionate amongst each other and ready to run out and buy the record to find the answers.

all this crap about Chelsea Rodgers= working.
everyone wants to buy the album to hear it and no one knows wtf or whotf she is. He used this technique with The Time and it worked. and it's working again now. all this crap about whether guitar sucks/will chart= working. you guys are being played off of one another in teh name of free word of mouth. he's been doing it to us all for years.

a message: please be more creative and less transparent in promotional techniques. the album should and will speak for it's self, not be reduced to living on gossipy hype.

Free word of mouth between people who will buy it anyway? I think you're seeing something here that's not there.

Vanity Fair-

While I agree with your overall observations about the value of buzz- negative or positive- in driving sales, I seriously doubt Prince is the puppeteer pulling our strings from behind the scences.

Once you get a fan base and a bulletin board like this one you can count on gossip and argument to generate itself. It's A-U-T-O-matic.

I've been jammin' that in my car nearly non-stop. It was one of my favs from '1999'.

Anyway, I agree with this.

Nope. "Resolution" is the title. There is even a line of the lyrics up at 3121 mentioning the word resolution as well.

Regarding the PE leaks: it is very interesting that we are getting song by song radio leaks instead of the entire album (torrent).

Makes me feel like its 1988 all over again smile

with renato back on board that'd better be real freakin piano,
it ticks me off to no end when he uses synthetics as he's got
the real deal ready to go with very talented people

no no no! It's not a girdle, it's a corset! geek wink

It is indeed a corset.
Corset: A fitted garment usually with boning designed to cinch the waist and lift the breasts.

Girdle: A girdle is a piece of women's underwear that replaced the corset in popularity and usage. Constructed of elasticized fabric and usually fastened with hook and eye closures.

Given the definitions, it doesn't seem to be a girdle- though I did see some pictures that looked similar to what Prince is wearing. Its a modified corset- and it doesn't seem to be doing anything to his figure, prolly cause its not worn right and worn loosely for the picture. He's also wearing it the wrong way- because it is supposed to be an undergarment (at least it used to- these days shrug ). Apparently, they make corsets for men (both heterosexual men and cross-dressing men- yes, there's a difference in the material used)

Front of Male Corset:

Back of Male Corset:

Apparently, they've been worn by men for centuries, over clothing and under clothing. geek

Yeah, but here it seems used more than it has at any time since he changed his name back. I've heard the final packaging won't have his name on it, either... but the symbol is in prominent display. I'm not suggesting he would change his name again but he seems to be positioning it as a 'brand' this time around.

you're right of course. But not only this promo, what about the superbowl stage as well.

I always liked the sign but definately needs 2 b in the background.

nod Yup, the superbowl stage and it was given prominent placement in the Black Sweat video, too, if you want to go back to that. Seems like the symbol and '3121' are being given a lot of attention here.
