[Edited 6/16/07 8:07am] God, I hope not. After spending about 1/3 or the last 2 and a half years in Hawaii, I can say that I've had my fill of reggae and island music. In fact, I'm there right now, and if Prince comes out with some reggae shit while I'm here, I don't think I can take it. I haven't heard anything about this song, but it could easily be Reggae, and in fact, a remake, because many Reggae artists have done a song with that same title. "He's a musician's musician..."

But seriously, I've been waiting for P to do a straight ahead reggae tune for 20 years. Of course it would have to be be funky too. I know he could rock that shit to the max if he went with some authentic heavy drum'n bass patterns rather than 'reggae lite' like he did with Blue Light. If he's going to do it at all he should take a hint from JB and "do it to death." As for the Lion of Judah, it is a religious theme in the Rastafarian tradition having to do with the diaspora of one of the original 12 tribes of Isreal from the Old Testament, the black skinned tribe, specifically. Ho, sorrys brah. S'my fault dat Jawaiian music stay all ovah da place lidat.
In '82 I wen go stay Maui as one dirt bagger on da beach. I stay missing my reggae music collection in storage back in CA. I went over to KAOI radio and pitched them a deal: How 'bout you guys pay to have my records shipped over and keep them in your library for me? That way I get to hear some of my music on the air once in a while and have a safe place for my vinyl. For whatever reason they went for it and DJ Guy Amico started playing one hour of reggae on Friday nights. The phone started ringing off the hook and the show expanded to two, then four hours. I think the show was called Island Dread. It was a Maui show but then guys on beeg island and Oahau started calling in requests. We found out that on Friday nights the blahlahs were going out to far northern (for big islanders) points and far southern (for Oahu boyz) points so they could snag the signal and party down. I think it was Brother Noland that coined the Jawaiian term and had the first breakthrough hit with Coconut Girl in a High Fashion World. In retrospect, I guess it's kind of obvious that music from one island culture would translate so well to another island culture but whoda ever thunk that a simple innocent attempt to get my music back into my vicinity would infect the culture and spread so widely? So, sorry you no mo like dakine Raze, but ass why hard. The only thing I sometimes regret is when I hear da kapuna (senior citizens) complain that this music has pretty much snuffed out the traditional island music but really I don't think it could be helped. Years later I ran into Guy Amico at a Wailing Souls (seminal Jamaican harmony group) concert at the Orange County CA State Fair and we marvelled at what had happened to the music scene in Hawaii from our little show. Guy told me that while travelling in Germany he ran into someone wearing his Island Dread radio show T- shirt.

There is a review of the cd on housequake.com. Seems to be pretty bad. The guy gives it a 6/10.

I am looking forward to this record. I really enjoyed !3121!, i believe this was his best record in years by far, 'cause it contained "3121", Word, Love, Fury and "Get on the Boat".
I fear, that PE won't be as good. Especially his slow tracks are fillers since the 90ies...We will see... [Edited 6/18/07 4:53am]

Sarko, the review on HQ could very well be (and probably is) a product of the "reviewer's" imagination. He was lambasted some time ago for posting a ridiculously fake set-list to a Prince show in Hong Kong.

I dreamt the cover!
*IN MY DREAM* it was not the one we have seen. It was a color hologram of the planet Earth and if you tipped it one way it would shrink and then break apart. If you tip it another way it seems to' die.' I was like it would get covered in fog and smoke and turn gray and turn to ash. But! if you held it the correct way the water would be blue and the land would be green. and it would get bigger and it got a halo around it. Then the really trippy part, it would play music.

I'm also glad to see that he isn't trying to cram 18 tracks of nonsense onto one disc. Give me but 5 powerful, awe-inspiring songs and I'll dish out the $20.00 with a smile. ^ Thanks for pointing that out, since it's hidden away.
My earlier post (that came up empty) was asking for speculation on which track will be this year's horn-heavy JB homage? My guess is Lion Of Judah. Hopefully none of them are, but it seems he has to do one each album nowadays.

More and more i get the (gut) feeling that this isn't the REAL artistic comeback much of us have hoped for.
It sure wont be the new Sign of the Times, but i am affraid it wont even be his best album since the Gold Experience (his last 'very good' album IMO). At this moment i think it will be an album on par with 3121, but with a few more standout tracks. I mean: 'Guitar' sounds more promising at first then Te Amo Corazon, but after a few repeated listenings its quite a calculated / lightweight effort, in the eighties it would be one of his more unremarkable B-sides. Next to that: the cover of the CD, the title, and the two closing tracks: Lion of Judah and Revelations dont appear very 'promising' to me. It seems like Prince is still holding himselve 'captive' with crappy JW-dogma's. But, hey, who knows. When my expectations are very low and sceptical i might be surprised in a positive way by some of the songs on Planet Earth.

so no reviews yet?
things i hope for: Decent production some horn free songs (his songs are cheesy as fuck when horns come into play) maybe a dark song or two.. hell.. just some good fucking music it getting leaked soon Things i don't look forward to: Religious junk prince pooping all over the fucking tracks over production fake instrumentation (aside from occasional electronic or drum programming, if your gonna use strings damnit.. get the real shit.. not the casio) so.. yeah!

^Have you learned to differentiate between real nad fake strings? I remember you cryiyng out loud in despair because of the "lame-ass keyboard strings" when Te Amo Corazon came out, although the cut features Clare Fischer's work. [Edited 6/19/07 21:06pm] We Can Funk
