Does anyone prefer Prince's version of this song over the original by The Stylistic's? I mean The Sylistic's version is good and all but I just love Prince's version. His voice on that song is incredible. I just adore Prince's version of this song .

I had never heard the song
until Prince did it
then later I heard the orginal
and then Phyllis'

There's no comparison here because Prince's cover of "Betcha By Golly Wow" is superb! Ginuwine's version of "When Doves Cry" on the other hand is just painful to listen to. I'd like to forget that I ever heard that song.

I thought Prince wrote it up untill a couple of months ago, i heard the Phylis Hyman version and thought she was doing a cover of Princes song. ha ha

Those classic Thom Bell/Linda Creed-written songs are very hard to re-make.The original versions are always the best.

My uncle James, who passed away in '94, left me his Stylistic albums. He turned me on to them when I was a little girl.

Well I'm from Philly, and remember when my homeboys the Stylistics did the original, not even Prince can touch that.

I like the original, but maybe that's because I heard it first.

i think the prince cover of this song is dreadful. or maybe i'm simply holding it up to his live cover of just my imagination. either way, his rendition was weak and an absolutely horrible choice as lead single from emancipation.

they're both great versions. I like both the same.

I like Prince's version better, because I don't like the vocals on the original.


That said, he tried too hard to make it sound like The Most Beautiful Girl In The World. and it definitely shouldn't have been a single from Emancipation, let alone the lead single.

I am playing that song for my reception when I get married...

That one he should have left alone!
