17 DAYS AND LALALAHEEHEEHEE 12" As the Summer 12" post onslaught continues...2 more underrated ones that should be blasted are 17 Days and Lalalaheeheehee. I know I'll hear cries of foul on the 17 Days one,but I can play it anytime I want to so,that makes it real. "I'm a pig..so,magic elixir I swill"

Both great B-Sides but there is no extended version of 17 Days available it's the same version on both the 7" and 12". if you've gotta pay for things that you've done wrong I've gotta big bill coming at the end of the day- Gil Scott Heron

I have argued about this before.I do believe it was fan-made,but it is funky, nevertheless. The 17 Days "remix",we'll call it. Quite long and I dig it. "I'm a pig..so,magic elixir I swill"

I don't like the 17 Days remix (it just goes on too long with nothing new added), but I'll definitely agree with you about La, La, La, He, He, Hee--that is a quintessential Prince experience. The part where he says, "Yo, relative, you just gonna play the line over--gimme this!" and starts to jam is in my top 10 Prince-on-record moments.

"LaLaLaHeeHeeHee" is the BOMB!
Prince's Bass solo is sick... not 2 mention his rhythm guitar. "He's a musician's musician..."

It seemed like after that one long "oooooh" at the end of 17 Days R & B changed. (just after "why dont chu answer your phone baby - yeah, yeah, oooooh " Producers started looking for singers who sang everything like that. Charlie Wilson was doing it but Aaron Hall came along, and a bunch of other people gave it a shot. Al B Sure, Keith Sweat, Johnny Kemp etc.; it was crazy hot intense P and MJ had things. That reminds me, one of the things that P always does is have a basic song structure, then at some point did something super funky ONCE and kept rolling w/ the song. Youd never hear him do it that way again and it would seem inadvertent yet the inadvertent thing became how the song went. Little riffs/flourishes that other people would play every time they did the song, he didnt. I dunno, I just remember clearly, that underground B side changed things.
