Although I'm a huge Clash fan, I'd vote for Prince in terms of musical talent (he really is one of the greatest - if not the greatest musician - to have come out of ANYWHERE on the last twenty five to thirty years).

That said, I think Marley's influence was far wider reaching than Prince's will ever be. His music has had more global resonance than Prince's.

As for The Clash - I agree that they were the genuine article, punk-wise. Outside Johnny Rotten/John Lydon, the rest of the Pistols were in it for dope, dames, drink and money. The Clash really - naively/ideastically - believed that music could change things. Love him or loathe him, they had a huge influence on Bono, who's taken their core militancy, their essence to the front room's of world leaders.

Ok, that wasn't the case for all The Clash - Topper Headson was in it for the drugs, money and fame, as he himself has always admitted - but, despite taking $500,000 to play the USA festival in 1983, The Clash never really sold out. And, unlike the Pistols, never reformed.
There are three sides to every story. My side, your side, and the truth. And no one is lying. Memories shared serve each one differently
