Not trying to pick a fight, but you sure seem to be on a mean negative streak on ALL your posts on myriad threads. Just an observation. . . confused I'm not saying that Prince is infallible or above reproach or valid criticism but your persistent negativity is REALLY odd IMO. But I guess some people get off on constantly pissing on people's parade, okay, well whatever. . .

So now that we by and large established that it is ok for a person to make money, does it fit within acceptible bounds were he to release an album with no concept other than to make as much money as possible.
If not, why not.

Again, Prince has earned what he gets...shit, I wish him nothing but the best when it comes to making money because that same dollar could be in support of lil scrappy or p diddy. razz

But, my observation was that he's hob nobbing with the wealthy much more lately, selling rights to his songs (verizon)...playing concerts where the tix cost $15,000...for every $31.21 concert seat, there's been many at $250+

And what's wrong with ANY of this as long as he keeps creating music??? Yeah, yeah, I know some fool is gonna come with, "But it's not as good as Purple Rain!" blahblah Boo-fucking-hoo! It's 23 years later so get over it. And Prince at his MOST mediocre is still far and away better than ANY of the no talent hacks on the radio today, so whatever. talk to the hand

Besides, Prince ALWAYS hobnobbed with the rich and famous, Prince did NOT "sell the rights to his song to Verizon," Prince did NOT set the price for the $15000 concert ticket, the promoter did and the ticket is for FIVE shows with other artists, not JUST Prince. AND there are FAR more tickets available for $31.21 than those at the $250 which actually was a package that includes TWO performances, a T-shirt, a CD, and the new perfume. Good luck getting anything other than a stale ass performance from Barbara Streisand for the price of a $1200 ticket. rolleyes I know facts may seem like pesky little details and a nuisance but if you're gonna criticize get ya shit right. . . confused

I understand the man has to get paid, but (I think) the higher road for him
to take would be RELEASING his CD material...sell the concert DVD's....stuff like that.
This latest act of rubbing elbows with the high-and-mighty...Pricey, Pricey, Pricey stuff goes against his core audience.

It's funny to me how everyone wants to sit in judgment of HIS decisions regarding HIS art and HIS marketability and commerciality when he has ALWAYS given back to his fans in various ways. I guess it's easy to sit in judgment and "overlook" the concert tickets for $31.21, intimate concerts in Vegas for $125 (when every other "star" is selling tickets to stale ass shows for much more), ridiculously intimate aftershows in Vegas for $50, etc.

I can think of NO other artist who has consistently and regularly opened his doors wide to be closer to his fans like Prince has. People are always talking about how much of a recluse he is but name me another singer/performer that is even CLOSE to his level of fame that is this accessible and at least somewhat thoughtful of his fans. Do Madonna, U2, The Police, Celine Dion, Elton John, Bon Jovi, The Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, et al sell reasonably price concert tickets and perform regular aftershows in small venues until 6 am???? Not the last time I checked. confused

He is still a consumate artist and performer. And artistry does not mean you have to take a vow of poverty or limit your earning potential to appease some altruistic naive concept that making money is evil and at odds with being down or "keeping it real" as an artist. Whatever! Believe me, no starving artist wants to be starving they want recognition, status, and financial success. Stop the judging because I think that if you see him perform and listen to his music it is quite evident that "$$$" is NOT what matters most to Prince.

Oh and BTW, if I had $300-400 million sitting in the bank you BEST believe Prince would have a standing mothafuckin engagement EVERY 3rd Friday of the month in my mothafuckin living room. And I'd direct deposit that million into his mothafuckin bank account. Okkkkaaaaayyyyy???? Do you understand the words that are coming outta my mouth????? nod

Either that or the chitlin circuit for the has-beens.

He's still a business man and a 49 years old black musicians at that, lets not 4get the latter. Morals and a cult-followng won't save him from being chewed out by this viscous industry. They sure didn't save him when he went through that crisis with WB.

I'll give him the credit for surviving this long without being insane or hurting anybody(or himself) badly. Thats in itself is a success.

Fuck the music, he ALREADY got his point across, he doesn't need to prove anything to anybody anymore.

You can't be serious...brotha has changed lately, there's no denying that.
I'm not talking music, I'm talking his attitude towards getting paid.
Batman is a good example...can you imagine him being involved with Batman today?
As huge as that pic was back in the day, you can best believe that TODAYS Prince would break the bank.

I AM serious, I don't see this as a new or negative development. I also don't have a problem with Batman at all. It was Prince working within the context of the film, giving each character a musical perspective and doing something completely different, which is what artists are supposed to do grow, change, experiment. Do you seriously have an issue with some of the gems that came out of the Batman project??? The Scandalous Sex Suite alone was worth whatever perceived measure of selling out.

I personally don't think his attitude to getting paid has changed moreso that we're living in a totally different time where the media is concerned. When Prince was in his heyday in the early 80's to early 90's the press and the media did not report on EVERY little detail about a celebrity's personal and financial life like they do now. A whole multibillion dollar industry has emerged in the media that is completely sustained on gossip and the idiotic details of celebrity lives. Remember when MTV and VH1 used to play music? Now, it's all about Cribs and The Fabulous Life of. . . The advent of the internet has also added exponentially to the wealth of information and MISinformation that is available for public consumption.

Therefore we don't know if Prince has in fact accepted money to perform at a birthday party in the past or not. He probably has but that wouldn't be so eagerly leaked and widely known 8 hours after the fact, say 15 years ago. Prince ALWAYS hung out with the rich, famous, and beautiful (just ask Charlie Murphy) we just weren't aware of it like we are now.

About time he did it 4 his selfish reasons. All his life its about the music, and we all know hes not a materialistic icon or ever been motivated by success or money.

Hes got mouths 2 feed at Praisley Park, and bills.

At end of day hes most popular lust 4 live shows. I mean he broke a UK record 4 sellin £140,000 tickets in 20 mins. U best belive it! The best is yet 2 come!

Now, shit, he's playing birthday parties for a cool million.

Brotha has changed, dont you think?

And, is this a bad thing? If anyone does, Prince deserves what he gets.

He is finally running "Prince Incorporated", as he should.
Look at Madonna. She's managed her success to her advantage.
Prince is taking control of his talent with marketing, publicity, and hard work.
As far as I'm concerned, it's about time. He should've done this years ago.
He's still doing spontaneous appearances for others with no added charge.
I'd rather see this, than complaints about being a victim.
wink

AND I'm buying the new perfume just for the hell of it..Congrats P!!!
