Besides, Prince started attracting a very diverse fanbase from early on. The bandwagon jumpers were just more of the same that didn't stay for the whole ride. You also can't help when you like a certain artist (like me, since I wasn't even alive when he first hit the scene).

and for those who question my logic there are four artist whom i can think of that don't bother going the route prince does each album (ie, sponsorship): aimee mann, bjork, sufjan stevens and ani difranco.

but even aimee mann has sold out a couple times and made appearances on WB shows to gain interest in an album.

and like i said about prince, aint nothing wrong with that.

You know if Prince had a Viagra ad, you'd be the first in line trying to get some. You can't knock Prince for finding new innovative ways to get music out. He's going with what hot. He knows that if you have a phone that can ID music just by holding up to the song, why not role with it. He knows that if he puts out a good album die hard fans are going to buy it, a few casual fans will buy it, but this is for those people who hear a song by him who may not necessarily buy his album but like one particular song. He will make even more money this way. Hell, I would do the same thing and think nothing of it. If you really don't like it, don't buy his album and don't go to any of his concerts. I bet you won't do that. So whose the sellout now!
