mid 90's NPG Do you think that, with the mid 90's NPG band, Prince was creating his own 'The Time' of the...erm.. time, i guess? I ask as i believe this was his first only all male band, wasn't it? Furthermore, it often seemed that the lyrical themes became more masculine, less subtle and very funk dominated. However, Princes physical appearance contradicts this. Whereas the time were all sharp suits, his attire became ever more bizarre and the androgyny lines blurred even more. Anyways - back to the music - There was also alot of humour interjected into songs/skits on these albums - e.g. Mash potato girl reminds me of Tricky in many ways.
way off? What are your thoughts? [Edited 6/3/07 2:17am]

idk i mean....hmmm
i think the 90's was princes so called TIME like where he is no longer considered new anymore so throwing anything out there like he did n the 80's wouldnt wrk 4 long..... i mean n the 80 he had songs that when he said one line n a verse it could b the chorus 2 another song..... 4 as the music mayb he was trynna blend n wat his band members tastes n talents were. i mean when u wit yo boys u can act different n get away with it then u can with gurls. for his outfits i think that they were very eccentric and i liked most of them from D&P to GOLD but as we all seem 2 kno prince he still has 2 make sure his image is maintain....or mayb the whole point was 2 stand out who knos!!! hav u had ur + sign 2 day.
wish u heaven GOD Purplerain7772001

i think the characters prince and morris created for The Time's stage personae were based on their own shared sense of humor, but back in the day they were very careful about morris being the "pimp" character and prince being, well, "prince"...i think as the whole paisley empire started to disintigrate and these distinctions weren't quite in use as much, prince started taking on that "pimp" character more and more...not that it was any new development. he was basically acting that way through most of "under the cherry moon".
