prince relationship with bobby z prince and bobby were best friends at some paRT of their lifes.
but prince fired bobby z in 1986.how did he tell him dessision,did he avoid bobby??? also in 2000 during america jam on first celebration prince played with matt fink,brown mark and bobby z. while brown mark and matt fink were 20 minutes on stage ,bobby rivkin was on stage for aboyt 2 minutes. after prince said kick drum,bobby didnt play it and prince said you need to be replaced and called kirk. what was that? was it a diss,is there any bad blood between prince and bobby z??? | |

Prince telephoned Bobby in October of 1986. He advised Rivkin that Sheila E was going to replace him. Bobby is reported to have later said:
"She (Sheila E) was one of the best five drummers in the world in my opinion. I was replaced by someone who was one of a kind." In 'Possessed' by Alex Hahn, he also describes Prince's dealings in replacing him as "totally admirable, totally kosher, man-to-man". When Bobby played in 2000, he missed a cue from Prince, who joked about Bobby's hearing fading with age. When it happened, it did come across as a little abrupt from where I saw it, with Kirk coming on to replace him. There is also a report in 'Possessed' of Bobby's visit to Paisley Park in 2000 which, if accurate, describes Bobby leaving disappointed with what he heard. . I'm not sure about this exact instance, but Prince has been known to fine his bandmembers for missing notes. IMO he puts showmanship and perfection over friendship.
Prince has burned so many bridges in his rise (and fall). How can you trust your support structure when you keep replacing them? How can you trust or believe anyone when you fire anyone who disagrees with you? I respect bands that have risen to fame together and rode out the hard times together. |

I also read (though it escapes me where) that Bobby came to the realisation half way through the Parade tour that Sheila would probably replace him after the tour. So it wasn't really a shock to him when he got the call. Prince was recording a lot more with her than he was with Bobby at the time. Most musicians in the industry understand that it's all part of the ride. But I guess it would have been sad considering that he and Prince went all the way back to the early days in Minneapolis. I do too, but let's not forget, when Prince was 17, he was not a band. He didn;t need a band (at least in the studio anyway). Prince was always a solo act with a supporting group of hired individual musicians that had to be able to learn Prince's songs and act exactly the way he wanted them to on stage. If there was a weak link, it would not last too long. The Revolution was probably as close as it got to Prince being a band, and maybe even the ONA band came close. But still, at the end of the day, it was always Prince people came to see, not the band. And very few of the members over 25 years have really been collaborators creatively in a shared band vision. | |

Is it just me, or did back in the Revoluitions height of popularity (1984-1985) didn't Bobby Z look like a White version of Prince? I mean he had the big curly hair and even the beauty mark.  I love a Man who:

I remember that day. Prince called him up and when Bobby first came onstage Prince said, "hhmm, a little shapely!". I guess he was refering to Bobby's weight gain. With a comment like that one would assume they were on good terms. But for Prince to just boot him off like that does seem a bit rude. He probably wanted the music to sound good and Bobby jacked his part up! Who know's. Klick klick | |

well browm mark went on the stage first prince said shaipley,after him joined dr fink. they jammed for sometime when prince said bobby z is in the house come to the stage bobby. bobby started to jam with prince brown mark and doctor fink,and to my ears boby sounded good. but after only 2 or 3 minutes of jamming prince said kick drum,and then:wait a minute he forgot his hearing,bobby z ya all,c'mon kirk. was it a stage act or ? did bobby ever comment that situation??? | |

It's LISA saying "Bobby on the drum-uh", NOT Sheila. Even at the Family Jamm when that part came up Wendy said "give it to them Lisa". It's amazing to read what some people think they here. | |
