Prince studio cd's vs. Prince live cd's What do u like more?
I think his live cd's (bootlegs) sound so messy with all of the instrumental interludes and medleys. He often plays only a short piece of songs with new arrangements and so. Of course, seeing him live is always exciting and a party, but hearing his live bootleg cd's ? The only exception I can think of are the One Nite Alone discs 1 and 2. Besides I love Prince's creativity in the studio (the tricks, the overdubs, funny voices etc....).

the one nite alone discs are official though, and were profeshionaly recorded.

i like the energy of the live stuff more, but it gets on my nerves when he makes the audience sing every other verse. i don't wanna hear those schmoes, i wanna hear purnse!

that anoys me aswell, but more than that is the fact that in songs like "Lets Go Crazy" and "Raspbery Beret", he only does one verse and a chorus

Over his entire career Prince has performed so many songs in so many different arrangements. He does truncate songs, but at other times he suddenly performs the full version. Of course, the reason he cuts songs short and does medleys is because he has so much material to get through. At the end of the day with concerts, there is a case of you really having to be there to appreciate it, a lot is lost in translation to audio only. Even on the ONA live official discs, the fantastic atmosphere somehow failed to be captured though it was a first class concert experience.

Yeah, I feel the same way... he's great to watch live... but I don't like those live arrangements post-revolution... he just went nuts with the horns. I don't like those truncated songs either.

I like it when I'm AT the show. But not when I'm listening to it on a CD "Half of what I say is meaningless; but I say it so that the other half may reach you." - Kahlil Gibran

I'm sure I haven't hear as many live cds as you guys have but so far I love what i've heard. I guess right now i'd say I like it better than the studio because i'm just now discovering those where i've had the studio for years! "Why'd I waste my kisses on you baby?" R.I.P. Prince You've finally found your way back home. Well Done.

When P records his live stuff he always goes crazy with the overdubs. With that said I still really like Days Of Wild off the Crystal Ball release. ONA live is cool too but it has been overdubbed.

His studio cds sound horrible; truly bad.
The mastering from brian gardner is horrendous. Cliiping and no dynamic range I like all the material though from the last 4 albums

I love it too, despite the needless, sloppy "these are the days, these are the days" overdubs toward the end. "Half of what I say is meaningless; but I say it so that the other half may reach you." - Kahlil Gibran

I love his studio CDs, but I also prefer some "live" versions of certain songs. Aside from the poor sound quality its cool to hear the rawness & grit he comes with live. "I'M OK AS LONG AS YOU ARE HERE WITH ME!!! SEXUALITY IS ALL WE EVER NEED!!!!!"

I like it when I'm AT the show. But not when I'm listening to it on a CD i don't even like AT the show. but then, i hate audience participation at live shows, be it concerts or plays or whatever. I PAY. YOU PERFORM. I WATCH.
