Grupo Fantasma & Sheila E. will be Prince's Special Guests @ ALMA Awards

Prince will be joined onstage with Grupo Fantasma & Sheila E. This Friday 4 the taping of the ALMA Awards which will air on ABC TV on Tuesday, June 5th.

This was posted on GF's myspace page 2day:

GF has received a last minute invitation to back up the one and only Prince for his performance at the 2007 Alma Awards, the show tapes this Friday night and airs NEXT TUESDAY at 8 PM on ABC!! We have been in LA all week rehearsing for this amazing opportunity. We are in Austin, TX tonight taping our Austin City Limits performance and return to LA immediately afterwards.

The bad news we will have to postpone our Dallas show this Friday once again! We promise to make it up and make it well worth the wait. In the meantime, tune into ABC next Tuesday at 8 PM sharp to see GF backing the legend himself, Prince. Don't miss it, Prince + GF live on TV!!

I will also confirm that that lovely and very talented Sheila E. will also be performing alongside Prince & Grupo Fantasma. The only source I have 2 back that up is me and I would NOT lead u guys wrong, u know that.

This should be a really great performance and looking 4ward 2 it. Prince & Sheila & Grupo Fantasma.

Well, Sheila E. was a given, but with the hype of a "special guest", I was really hoping to see and hear Prince and Santana trading guitar licks and blowing everyone's mind. Oh well...

I find it interesting that a "special guest" has been advertised for months, but GF only got the call this week. Since Sheila E has performed with him on several televised performances over recent years, I can't help wondering if someone else was scheduled and dropped out, or if there is still a surprise in the wings that we'll see on Tuesday.

They're a popular South Texas latin group that wound up playing at 3121 and were even set to play the SuperBowl with Prince at one point(so I heard). Im from Laredo, so they're quite popular here. From what Ive seen, they're a really tight band. I for one am excited!!

nothing against GF, but there are two bands that could easily back him that evening...

LOS LOBOS would be my choice to see and Steve Berlin does play sax

Any speculation on what he will perform tonight? Guitar? A hits medley? Something else?

In some ways that's a logical choice, but I think it's unlikely he'd perform a song that wasn't really a hit rather than play a new song or a hits medley. Of course, a medley including parts of TAC and the Santana medley among others could be very cool. We'll see, I guess...

if he does perform with Sheila E. it will be awesome whatever they do. I like it when they do Love Bizarre together...jmo...
