FADED DISC!

[color=violet]I have a copy of" Paisley park", the picture disc shaped like a boy flying with a balloon. On the b-side "She's Always In My Hair" the picture has discoloured to a very deep brown resin like colour. It has been well looked after in a record box with loads of rare prince items! Has this happened to anyone else or does anyone know what might make this happen?[b][/b

It's a common problem:

The site above suggests that the problem arises from poor storage.

However, I have read of people who have stored this disc in very good conditions and the same problem has occurred. My own version, which has been stored away in its original packing after being purchased on the day of release has begun to show these signs. It has never been exposed to daylight, and the other coloured vinyl with it is unharmed (despite seemingly being in the same type of liner)

I've read suggestions that either the original plastic liner for this particular disc reacts with the coloured vinyl (?) or that this happens to some certain vinyls as dye leeches and displays prominently.

I'm sure someone will know.

Yes, this is a common problem.

The same thing happened to my copy, which has been carefully stored, and
never been exposed to sunlight. So this has NOTHING to do with storage or
sunlight issues. Interestingly (certainly with my copy), if you flip the disc
over and look at the b-side there's no hint of discoloration and the colors
and white background are as crisp as they were when I bought it.

It seems to me that the only logical explanation is that the paper used had
some kind of coating or treatment on one side only, and this reacted with the
clear vinyl over time to cause the discoloration.

This is just a guess....mabye nothing to do with your problem.
but when i was a kid i collected comic books, they sold clear plastic covers that were...umm.. acid free (something like that) to protect your books.
The none protected plastic covers were known to fade colors , brown'n your books.
Mabye u should not keep them in there plastic original covers?
but then again mabye yours are not in plastic

No, it's got nothing to do with the plastic sleeve, or storage, or sunlight etc.
(if it were, then the discoloration wouldn't be restricted to only the A-side
of the picture disc). The only logical logical reason that can explain it is that
the paper used for the picture had some kind of coating on one side only,
which reacted with the clear vinyl over time.
