I think there are people on the org who are getting it twisted. Wayne is shitty to say the least but his record sales don't lie. He's poppin right now. I don't know why but he is and I'd be lying to come on here and ignore that fact. his vocal delivery is different than any other rapper thats why he is so hot.....he sounds drunk all the time ...thats hot to youngsters Hmm..kind of reminds me of something I heard once, "Feed somebody enough sh*t and they'll think it's a steak". If sh*t is all someone hears on the radio 25,000 times ad nauseum, of COURSE they'll eventually think it's "hot". Don't think I'm hating on all of hip hop because as far as I'm concerned, this corporate driven aural drivel is NOT hip hop. "Keeping it real" never meant keeping it ignorant. Sweet jebus... Every goddam time. This shit happens because PRINCE ALLOWED IT. Is it so hard to look up the rules on "clearing samples"? Learn about music publishing -- you'd think Prince fans would have done considering their hero talks about the music biz all the time, but nooooo. http://www.mpa.org/ http://www.nmpa.org/ http://en.wikipedia.org/w...r_music%29 There is a huge difference between a record deal and a publishing deal and you can easily look it up. But I guess it's far easier to just badmouth the record company that spent MILLIONS on Prince and allowed him more freedom than just about any artist ever. Why educate yourself when you can just be prejudiced, right? Ignorance is bliss, I guess. actually this sounds right. Didn't the producers of Happy feet had to contact Prince for permission to use Kiss in the movie... and had to pitch their idea of their use to Prince... and his response was to allow them to use the song and write an original for them as well. I bet it sells more than the new guitar single? its good for southern rap and good for prince it will make him relevant to teenagers again and not a joke to them like they do now cuz he aint gangster and they think he gay yeah right! if anything, if they ever hear D&P they'll think P ripped off Lil Wayne It reminds me of the story of the kids who went to go see the musical Annie and when they sang "Hard Knock Life" they yelled "OMG THEY STOLE THAT FROM JAY-Z!" or when hearing Whitney or Mary J. copying Chaka and the youtz think Chaka stole it from Whitney and Mary J. as a comeback attempt. coolcat said: This is generally true, and the safest way to clear samples... But sometimes I think you can get away with just clearing the sound recording...
Once you go beyond a couple of bars and especially once the stuff you nicked is considered crucial to your track, be prepared to pay through the nose. Plenty of recent cases where failure to properly clear samples have cost people incredible amounts of dough. I can't recall which song, but a couple of years ago a hit song had an uncleared sample and now ALL of the rights to that song go to the guy they sampled. And the costs of such a lawsuit aren't pretty either. © Bart Van Hemelen

Richard Ashcroft sampled "THE LAST TIME" by the Rolling Stones on "BITTER SWEET SYMPHONY" and did not clear the use, so now the writers of "THE LAST TIME" collect all income every time "BITTER SWEET SYMPHONY" is played.
No, they don't. The money goes to who owns the publishing rights: http://en.wikipedia.org/w...ng_credits Jagger & Richards are CREDITED, but the actual money goes to: http://www.songfacts.com/...hp?id=1101 The publishing rights to this went to Allen Klein, The Rolling Stones' former manager. The Stones signed a very lopsided contract with Klein early in their career, and had to make huge concessions in order to get out of it. Part of the deal gave Klein the publishing rights to all of the Stones' songs through 1969. He made, and continues to make, far more money than anyone else from this song.
But Ashcroft is an ignorant ass (and a hugely overrated, untalented hack), and that's why he blames Jagger & Richards. I guess it was too hard to look at the legal papers and look who was actually suing him. Here's why Jagger & co hate Klein: http://www.thisislondon.c...article.do Guests couldn't believe their eyes. There he was, Mick Jagger, one of the most famous rock stars in the world, chasing his manager round London's Savoy hotel, screaming: "Where's my money? Where's my money?"
The Rolling Stone could not believe that after making massive international hits such as Satisfaction and Jumpin' Jack Flash, he and the rest of his band were stony broke. Not only that, they owed massive back taxes and, worse still, had signed away the rights to their songs. Jagger blamed one man for the mess: the Stones' manager Allen Klein. To this day, he resents the fact that Klein holds the rights to all their recordings before 1970. "From Brown Sugar onwards, the Stones get a reasonable amount of royalties if you hear a song on the radio," says one Stones source. "But for the records before that, they get something like half a penny. Mick still regards it as a complete rip-off." Wanna know someone else who ripped songwriters off? Look here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tony_M. In October 1998, Mosely (along with Levi Seacer, Jr.) filed a lawsuit against Prince, claiming that Prince hadn’t shared royalties that Levi and Tony were owed for songs they had co-written for Prince’s NPG Publishing, including "Sexy MF" and "My Name Is Prince". In the end Mosely and Seacer settled for approximately $40,000 each (apparently, not even enough to pay their legal expenses), having sued Prince for $800,000.
