Yes, I agree with you. I don't think it's one of his best cd's, but there are some rockin songs on it.

First three songs were great. The rest save I Will is total garbage. Had U wouldnt be so bad if it was a good album but it just sounds stupid here.

The whole CD is great. If you don't like it don't buy it. Buy the Mariah Carey record instead. Go on try it. You might like it. Buzzocks.

I was walking down the street this morning and couldn't get out off my head how great a song "Dinner With Delores" really is. I can remember the morning when the album got out and I rushed to the stores after having seen the video on MTV. A great day down my own memory lanes. Love the album.

i think it is incredibly underrated...though it is not one of his very best, it is still far better than a lot of his late 80's-early 90's material...i mean c'mon, all that gangster glam psuedo-rap pales in comparison. peace.

this is one of the great rock albums of all time!! if it was done by anyone else it would have sold millions!! prince was arguing with warners still and music has become so segrageted. The guitar is awesome, i love "i rock therefore i am" is my favorite, i mean rap, rock, reggae, funk and r&b all in the same song. un-freaking-believable!!

I haven't given the album the chance I've given all the others, but I know the only ones that made any kind of impression were Had U and Dig U Better Dead.

In "I will" the piano, string, and horn arrangements were so well written.

I would love an instrumental album of those kind of arrangements. Very inspiring.

Nothing on this album is "garbage" 'ceptin' "I dig U better dead" and "I rock therefore I am"

That said, it is still NOT a great album.

I Like it There

Little is written in print about the Chaos and Disorder sessions, so little that there remains an empty canyon between the mountains of hype swollen around the Gold Experience and Emancipation albums. Perhaps his multi-layer stacking of vocals in “I Like It There” is the real treat of this second track of the album. Prince isn’t the happy little elf in this album at all. In fact one could talk about hundreds of fabulous songs written by the master showman himself without ever mentioning this one as its easily forgotten. Or “lost in the dust” of all the venting going on in this album.

The sexual impatience is swollen into the lyrics as prince pleas, “What can I say that Shakespeare hasn’t said before?” Michael Bland’s bellowing drums crackle like thunder and litter like raindrops in the background as the lyrical master of more than 30 instruments stands on the heels of what sounds like an “on one knee” argument. “Every damn day I please you...” Who is he pleasing? His record company or something greater this “Heavenly body” Before we have time to think, it sounds like he’s declaring where he does like it. This all unravels upon more and more simple yet swirling guitar that is a crime not to ever be played live. “I’m in a daze but thats the way its gotta be.. let me count the ways I’m digging you.”

He’s not being fancy but at the same time, he’s not getting off the tree stump with the lyrics. After little over three minutes there is a bang of a gong and the song is over. Wrapped up.. and on to the next song. Truth is.. most of these songs are slapped together.. one on top of the other. After the way he dissected and rebuilt the Gold and Come albums.. perhaps this was a sign that things didn’t go quite as well as he had planned with this album. And without the NPG Operator or the rushing of waves and poetry to separate them, Prince just slaps them together. In and out of the studio, presto chango and goodbye record contract.

The best thing about the'Chaos and Disorder'CD is the song "Dinner With Delores".The lyrics are great and it's a charming song that deserved to be on a stronger album.

The rest of the songs are either just okay ("I Will") or downright awful ("Right The Wrong","I Rock Therefore I Am").Even though Prince's guitar-playing is superb on a few tracks, this album sounds like contractual filler.

I really liked Chaos & Disorder when I bought it. I like it there sent shivers down my spine, I was like wow that song rocks... Same December and zannalee were like revisiting old friends (after having them heard and seen (over and over) on the screens at the Gold Experience), never cared for Right the Wrong though...
Nowadays the album the album still holds up 4 me, it's raw Prince rock at it's best.

Peace

I've never been the biggest fan of this album. Sure, I like plenty of the songs just fine but as an album I think it falls flat. I wish it would've been more balls to the wall like "The Undertaker". That was the rock album that the world should've heard.

The title track, Dinner With delores, Dig U better Dead and Zannalee are all cool tracks. I like the album coz it sounds spontaneous and guitar-heavy. He doesn't show off his guitar playing anywhere near enough on record, and the records after it (Emancipation, NPS + RITJF) were all held back and marred by bad over-production. They were too squeaky clean and lacked any raw feeling to them. At least C&D had a rawness to it, even if some of the songs aren't his greatest, lyrically (Right the Wrong) or musically (I rock therefore I am).

Didn't he just lay down all the other instruments with the band and then add the guitar at the end..sure this was the case.
