Printable i have to say, this version kicks the ass of the one released earlier this year to the point where i have to wonder what he was even thinking to release the first version.
and for some reason, the new version kinda reminds me of U2. except for the solo, which is classic prince, the guitar sounds a little "edge-y" to me. and i mean that in a good way! also, i know we have a strict rule about not posting youtube videos, but the "guitar" clip on youtube was posted by verizon wireless, so i think it should be perfectly legit to post. but for what it's worth, i think it looks and sounds better on the verizon site.

what were those values that you're speaking of? the guy has spent a fortune on filming clips throughout his career that were for songs that weren't going to be released, let alone videos that wouldn't be seen. Anxiety, you sexy fuck, you got it, pal. Prince kinda cops from the riff of I will Follow in his guitar solo. I Will Followwwww. Little scamp.
The video is posted on the front page of youtube, so you know he will get mass hits now...lol All you others say Hell Yea!!

At least to me, this is an abject lesson in production.
That first track was mediocrity personified. Average pop pabulum that put me to sleep. Video version of "guitar" is more potent than even the difference between SNL "Fury" and album ”Fury”. He finally sounds like he does live, rather than a pale version of his immediate self. But you should hear “guitar” live? Yeah, but why can’t I hear that outside of a live bootleg? But I won’t make the simple mistake (at least for me) of thinking he can play guitar and rock outside of his amazing performances. I’ll just continue to assume he forgot how to rock on record and that the rest of the album will be as poorly produced as that ridiculously overpriced $1.99 demo that was almost forgotten by me before it ended. That demo version really sounded something like that SNL Christmas song, and that is not good. Funny? Yes. Good song. Absolutely not. Now watch me completely flip-flop when I hear the finished album version.

Customers who don’t have phones with V CAST Song ID can access “Guitar” by searching the catalog either via their phones or via their compatible PCs (running Windows XP and V CAST Music Manager or Windows Media Player 10 or higher; customers must be Verizon Wireless monthly subscribers). Customers can also get the Ringtone and Ringback tone through VZW Tones Deluxe on Get It Now-enabled phones.

Some on youtube actually seem to say that Prince doesn't know how to write good lyrics. Guitar is far from a masterpiece but every song can't be that. It's a nice little tune and probably just a simple warm up for what's coming... Too bad he didn't release this Verizon version first.

Jezuz, the video is getting some hate on youtube.
Sell-out?? WTF from? How do legends sell-out exactly? He ain't some underground hipster. Just like he paved the way for internet distribution, Prince is again paving the way digitally. Music, movies, tv shows will be accessed and consumed on cell phones like never before. This is also a brilliant promotional move since he has been dry-fucked by the entire record industry and they refuse to properly promote him anywhere. People think he's crazy when he's says, (to paraphase) "I make the records, they sell the records." Record companies can make hits out of anything they want if they firmly lodge it down the throats of consumers... they controll what gets played on the radio and music tv, what gets privilege in record stores... everything!!!You piss off the biggest bully in the schoolyard (WB) and don't expect any invitations to house parties. So this is any other way of him getting out there. Prince is so much smarter business-wise than most give him credit for. Having said that, I don't much care for the song. I've just heard the new version of the song. It is an improvement on the original but its still very much in the Fury/Black Sweat/Lolita vein of throw-away formula pop decorated with few rehashed hooks "borrowed" from his earlier work and the work of others (the chorus from The Beatles and the guitar riff from U2, in particular). It doesn't bode well for the album.
As for "insiders" claiming that this will be his "return to form", we've been hearing that prior to every album for the last 10 years. I remember the hype before 3121 - "Prince is back!", "his best work in 20 years!", "You sceptics will eat your words when you hear this!" - unfortunately 3121 turned out to be.....well....3121, a great advance in the treatment of insomnia but about as musically adventurous as Richard Marx ( there's a reference for you older kids ). I'm not particularly excited about this new album. Looks like it will be just another reminder that the well is well and truly dry.....wait, what's that?.....you hear that?...sounds like a fat lady singing.....Rosie?...is that you? I finally got my hands on the full track. I gotta say, I love it. Yeah, it sounds like a few too many other songs, but that's kind of true to the garage-rock-Chuck Berry spirit. I'm loving the New Wave keyboards at the end, those 2, count 'em, 2 smoking guitar solos, and the fact that he almost tells her to go to hell before Larry shoots him that look from somewhere offstage. He's done enough innovating to cover a dozen artists--I'm happy with a fun, LIVE-BAND track like this. That said, I'm hoping it'll be surrounded by a few deepers songs on the albume, but if that "Shadows and Chains" track is any indication, I think we're in for a nice and diverse album. The tyranny of Prince in an oligarchy is not so dangerous to the public welfare as the apathy of a citizen in a democracy.

as someone said it has
the riff from 'I Will Follow' (U2), the sound/production/arrangement of 'Fury' and the sub-rhythm of the keyboard riff from '1999' apart from that its original. (i also miss the bass from the 1st version)
