Has P EVER had a friend like Tracy (from Parade LP)

ok maybe no one REALLY knows, but i was listening to Sometimes It Snows In April and i was wondering if P has ever really had a friend like Tracy. i've learned that aside from chasing women and watching sports together, many male relationships are superficial (not that these two activities are "deep" per se but yall get the point right).

Like i mentioned in another thread, perhaps if P. had REAL male friends beyond just being band members, maybe he'd be more socially well adjusted on an interpersonal level. Jimmy & Terry appear to have solid marriages that have lasted, and might have been able to help P in this area. Morris and Jerome seem like they could've been tight homies beyond the show biz stuff and not be "yes men", they seem to keep Prince loose.

i dunno, the song took my thoughts there yesterday

I guess it only refers to Christopher Tracy the character and this song's sung from another (maybe Tricky's) perspective.
How it come to the name of such character I don't know, maybe it had to be long enough and sound like Little Girl Wendy to fit the song.

What's happening behind the stage, dunno
but don't mix roles in professional relationships with private life
Jerome and Morris HAD to be buddies for the show (and kiss in a movie, dunno if they rehearsed the night before though lol )

i'm aware of the origins of the song, i know its fiction. i'm not trying to co-mingle music and real life, but the reality of P being human and humans have real relationships, the question remains. and based on what i've learned in my short time in the org., u never know who knows what. someone could be like yeah Larry is that guy right now, or he and Brown Mark are really tight...

That's a good question. I think P probably never had a friend like that in the film, but he wanted one. P had been simply too busy to form a real close relationship with someone whom he could call his friend. It was easier for him to form a friendship with his bandmates but how realistic is that? Not very. P I heard, is moody as hell. And it's not really realistic to be tight with your boss. I understand that he got on the best with Bobby cuz Bobby gave P his space and never really searched P out for anything. Same with Dez. They were not going to become close with P. That's where Wendy and even Lisa, fucked up. But moreso ith Wendy. I think she tried to get a real closeness thing with P and P, being the type of cat that he is, after a while, ....

so as much as he'd probably deny it, that's a lonely place to be. and although we might want a different outcome for his life. if something doesn't change, it won't end nicely. the music is a gift and i'm appreciative, but no man is an island.

black guitarist, u think u'll get Dez's book?

The feeling he put into "Sometimes it snows in April" makes me think that he did.

Snap

the whole dynamic frightens him so much that he doesn't keep these kinda cars too close for long... he likes to keep 'em at a distance... maybe he might fly ya in, but that's only when there are others around and other things happening -- this way he's able to maintain that safe distance. maybe he only plays the businessman face-to-face, but then when you get back home he pings you with a pseudonym, you both have an awesome chat, and then at the end he says it wasn't really him.

i can relate. it's not comfortable being vulnerable, especially when his vulnerability can be so easily exploited

Wow, Im listening to Sometimes It Snows In April and I log in and see this.

I've been wondering a bit if the song is fiction for the movie or based on something/one real cause he sounds very, very upset.

I haven't seen the movie though, if i'd seen it I'd probably be able to tell.

good point Snap. i can relate too, that's why i KNOW its a lonely place to be. the lack of authentic relationships gets harder to conceal and/or deny the older one gets. i think P has had people with whom he could trust and be vulnerable but just chose not to. the fact that most of them kinda disappear after their tenure with him is indicative that they aren't all fame seekers eager to spew some gossip. sure there are contractual things, but still, if some wanted, they would.

he should write an instrospective but third person song about it and call it Scared to B Close
