Prince lends "Dear Mr. Man" to Cornel West album

From Pitchfork.com
http://www.pitchforkmedia...el-west-lp

Dr. Cornel West-- prominent intellectual and scholar, author of Race Matters and Democracy Matters, and current professor of religion at Princeton-- follows up his 2001 foray into recorded music, Sketches of My Culture, with another CD marrying the topics of the day with beats and rhymes. And this time he's brought some friends.

Prince, Outkast's Andre 3000, Talib Kweli, Rhymefest, the Roots' Black Thought, Killer Mike, KRS-One, Dead Prez's M-1, and Rah Digga all contribute to Dr. West's Never Forget: A Journey of Revelations, out June 19 on soul imprint Hidden Beach's new Hidden Beach Forum offshoot, according to Billboard.com.

"This is an attempt to go back to hip-hop's prophetic roots," West told the publication, "which are about truth-telling, exposing lies, and having fun."

Fellow thinkers Michael Eric Dyson and Tavis Smiley also guest, as does singer Gerald Levert, who passed away last fall.

Never Forget: A Journey of Revelations:

01 Bushanomics [ft. Talib Kweli]
02 America [ft. Black Thought, Rah Digga, Iriz & Lucky Witherspoon]
03 Still Here
04 Dear Mr. Man [ft. Prince]
05 911
06 N Word [ft. Tavis Smiley & Michael Eric Dyson]
07 Welcome to Chi [ft. Rhymefest, Neo-Abassy & Malik Yusef]
08 Mr. President [ft. KRS-One & M-1]
09 Keep It PI [ft. Killer Mike, Doey, Roc & Lucky Witherspoon]
10 Chronometrophobia [ft. Andre 3000]
11 Gonne Be Alright [ft. Dave Hollister & Chuckii Booker]
12 Matter Of [ft. Lenny Williams]
13 Soul Sista [ft. Daryl Moore]
14 The Man's Gonna Getcha [ft. Gerald Levert]

Just looking at the titles and artists on that album, I am getting so excited. I'm definitely going to cop it.
I'm an org elitist... totally unapproachable.

This is old news. He had it streaming on his website a few weeks back. It might still be there for all I know. It's simply Dr. West overdubbing a few lines over the Musicology version of "Dear Mr. Man" (talking about equality etc.).

Interesting, but nothing really "new" in terms of Prince content.

Old news : http://www.prince.org/msg/7/225382 -- where you'll even find a link to the Prince track. And before anyone says "that's illegal", it is hosted on their server, the file is used in the "streaming" application on the website.

look, all's fair in love and war if a piece of news isn't contributed as a news item (see my sig line and the front page).

cut me some slack, bart - i've been news mod for all of four days now. unless you're gonna loan me your time machine, i have some catching up to do. lol

Here is the actual link to the song with Mr. West's spoken words.

Look in the lower right of the page.

This was reported on Housequake.com back in April as well.

should this thread be removed from the front page as a news item?

1. the album isn't out yet.

2. it hasn't been reported on the org yet as a news item.

3. if it WAS submitted as news, i wouldn't have known about it until last week when i started news modding again.

4. judging from the first half of this thread, it's been news to several people.

but if enough folks think this "late news" is an embarrassment to the legacy of the org or whatever, i'll happily take it down, k?

it does me no good if i'm ruining the fun for everyone else.

sorry to start a whole site discussion thing on this thread, but i wanna make sure i'm not completely destroying the org on my first week back.

thanks luvs grouphug

This was always one of my favorites from Musicology. It should have been a single. Still, it’s nice to see it getting some attention. Also, the message of Dear Mr. Man makes it more appropriate than using Sign ‘O’ the Times.

Hell no it shouldn't be removed. bitchfight It was new news to me also. What about new people who have never heard of this? Or those of us who don't search the org items posted 4 weeks ago? confused At least leave it for a reminder.
