Dissecting a song #1 ... Batdance

I've been thinking about this song a bit 4 quite some time (some 5 mins, but that's quite some time if u're as 4getful as me)
I was wondering, the song is a collection of outtakes from other songs held 2gether by a steady beat and bassline, interrupted by a guitar...
Now what songs did he take 2 make this song and what do u think of it??

Songs used:

the future
rave un2 joy Fantastic
200 balloons
... anyone??

If u were 2 review this song 4 a paper what would u write about it??

Peace
"Time is a train, makes the future the past"

i personally dont think that the track is an amalgomation of other tracks. although, other parts of songs can be indentified, such as, '"if a man is considered guilty 4 what goes on in his mind, then give me the electric hair 4 all my future crimes, ohh". Alternatively, i percieve this track to be similar to a prince rehearsal. Wherein, a new groove (drums & bass) has been hit upon and prince is toying with this idea by incoorporating riffs/lyrics/melody from his back catalouge over it. However, the difference here lies in the fact that the song is a one man jam and a studio recording. Maybe that was his approach when making the track? Perhaps he used the persona's of the films characters e.g batman, bruce wayne, joker, vuki vale, to to fuel each contribution he placed onto this track. ??? who knows?
You do as I say

i don't know how true this is but i have heard that "200 balloons" was the original song concept and that the track we know as "batdance" originated as a sample heavy remix of that track

I agree, the drum beats are identical for the most part and they fit together very well as a part I/II song.
I think P originally wanted '200 balloons' but Tim Burton chose Batdance instead.
I read somewhere that P offered up a slew of songs and Tim Burton chose what songs he wanted used on the album.

It is true that 'Batdance' is basically an amalgamation of several tracks, some of them unused. It also contains elements of 'We Got The Power', an unreleased song.(The chant "hey, we got the power, oh we got soul..." is lifted straight from this track).

This song was genius.

Actually as I understand it, this song was a collage of all the ORIGINAL tracks that were going to be on the record.

Who else in music could do that? Take samples from every song on an album and make a new song?

Genius, I say.

Which, in turn, contains a sample of the robotic-sounding countdown from the 1965 science-fiction film 'Barbarella'.

I love "Batdance".It's fast and furious and perfectly captures the intensity and power of the 'Batman' film.I can't understand why director Tim Burton didn't use this song in the actual film.An instrumental version would have worked fine in some of the action scenes.

At this year's Xenophobia, Femi Jiya told a wonderful story about this track.

Apparently, Prince was uncertain about a particular section and couldn't make his mind up. He then asked Femi to come up with something, and Femi took HOURS to create that bit where the tape slows down (something that had never been done before).

Prince disliked it at first - and Femi was ready to destroy it; then Prince changed his mind and claimed ownership!!! Apparently, he said something like "I knew that was a good idea". Femi was, like, 'What???!'.
