As I pointed out, Hebrew's written from right to left, therefore:

1=Y (which is visually clear, using the jacket font)
2=H (only makes sense by cutting up the number, otherwise ?)
1=W (again, clear on the jacket font)
3=H (again, only by cut-and-twist)

But, as I said, such a derivation seems too far-fetched: it doesn't explain why he chose those numbers to begin with, or their significance when written in other fonts.

THIS IS EXACTLY HOW THE NUMBER 1's APPEAR ON THE 3121 CD COVER!!!!

Prince is using HALAKHAH(a circumolation of the names) which states it is only forbidden to erase a divine Name that is written in a "normal" fashion (i.e., in the standard Hebrew spelling (or transliteration ) of the Name), a common practice to avoid writing the Names of God is to substitute letters or syllables within the Name(thats why Prince is using 3 and 2)!

Oh wow, Prince if you have read this thread I'm sorry I didn't see it in the beginning. It's taken me quite a while to understand it but now I REALLY understand. Try NOT to bust a gut while laughing at everything I've written the last few days.

YHVH is the personable name of God of Isreal but is unutterable.

This thread is making me laugh. Some of the responses are hilarious. I have to say, part of Prince's appeal to me is his mysterious demeanor. When I was younger and had time, I would analyze his album covers-especially ATWIAD. But now, I just don't have it in me, nor the time. But more power to those who do. I enjoy that you enjoy what you are doing. And I understand the responses of those who think it's all silly.

I finally understand why he changed his name in 1993 to the symbol and why it's unpronouncable. I see the yod(the arm) reaching and then pointing upward toward heaven incorporated into the symbol.

If you cut off the bottom of the two and turn it 90 degrees, moved slightly to the left, you've got a "hay".

If you cut the three into two pieces as it appears, turn the curved one 90 degrees to the left, move it up and move the top bit down, you've got something that looks like another "hay".

This way's good, because it explains why the numbers look like they're made of separate pieces stuck together and why the last "one" is smaller than the first.
