Should've been singles: from Emancipation - Rainbow Children Strictly speaking in terms of singles that would have put Prince back on the charts if accompanied by videos with sexy women, and major-label promotion, which is what it takes to get every other song on the charts:
So Far, So Pleased (Was Gwen not super-hot in 1999?) Sleep Around (Did Cher not pull this kind of shit off?) Baby Knows (Who do you see on MTV, Sheryl Crow or Prince?)

Yeah, pretty disappointing that Gwen and him didn't release a video. The hype alone from a video like that would've brought attention to the song/album. NPGonlineLTD blamed the non-release on Gwen, I think.

So Far So Pleased (outrageously could've been hit, and still be)
Get Yo Groove On(?) maybe, they play it some on KMOJ in MPLS The Work - Everywhere (probably be more udult contemporary hits) (how can he release Face Down!!!??? rediculous!) Vavoom (no reason this was not released) When U Love Somebody (without the rap) dont know if it wouldve been top on the charts, but sounds single-ready Adore would've been an excellent video (i no were only talkin' up 2 d8) Waiting Room could be a moderate hit. he can du anything he wants but that's what eye like about him..one day when he passes, peeps will realise how greatful of an artist we had. Straight Jacket Funk Affair
Album plays and love for vinyl records.

I could not beleive that So Far So Pleased was not released as a single. As soon as I heard the track, you could just imagine that it would have been a MTV favorite with a good video.

Face Down is such a bad song - can't believe it got released. Somebody's Somebody could have done better with some decent promotion - I remember Trevor Nelson talking it up at one point when it came out. Slave could have been interesting, especially if it had some cool remixes.
As for TRC: The work and 1+1+1 is 3. She Loves Me For Me could have done ok although it does sound a lot like 'Wonderful Tonight' by Eric Clapton.

He wanted "So Far So Pleased" to be a single yet wasn't getting compliance from No Doubt's end if I recall...

I think "Sleep Around" would have made a perfect first single from 'Emancipation'.With a kickass video and a maxi-CD containing some great remixes, this song would have been a smash hit.
Likewise,"So Far,So Please" is the obvious choice for the first single from 'Rave'. I don't really think any of the songs from 'The Rainbow Children' could be released as singles. It's definitely a non-commercial album with very few "radio-friendly" songs on it.

I've always thought that 'The Love We Make' from Emancipation would have made a great Christmas record. It builds up to a crescendo magnificently, and no one would have argued with the lyrics, "put down the needle, put down the spoon" though I first thought he was saying "Darling needs, a diamond spoon"! I think Prince believes that releasing songs with religious messages is 'controversial' and something Warners never allowed him to do, and there are some religiousy lyrics in there, but hey if Cliff Richard can have a number one with 'The Millenium Prayer' why not?
I think if Prince had put out any of the 2 tracks with Gwen or Sheryl on, he would have been criticised for trying to cash in on their popularity at that time, which would have been a fair point. Besides, he could done those tracks without them and they would have sounded the same. If you're gonna invite people to duet, at least use them so they add something to the track! There was also that wasted opportunity on 'My Computer' with Kate Bush, you can hardly make her out, but a great track which would have been good to release, there were no other tracks out there at the time mentioning the internet and using the AOL greetings was very clever.

Emancipation: 'Saviour' - how could he release 'Betcha By Golly' over this brilliant piece? I fantasized about him performing this song on some awards show and crowning his "comeback". Boy, was I deluded. So many wasted opportunities...
