Was everyone happy with the remastering on ULTIMATE?

I thought disc 1 was pretty good. The tracks from 1999 album were especially good; alot cleaner than the horrible originals which were very poorly recorded.
Disc 2 however is squashed; especially on songs like let's work which already sounded fine without the extra compression.

Overall it's better mastering than his last four butchered albums.

It's Ok. Better than previous digital releases. It could have been much better, but certain nuances found their way out of the bit-rate haze on this set.

The early stuff still offers a better sound field on vinyl.

Too bad the back catalog has no timetable for proper remastering. With Prince's insistance on supressing the "dirty" songs. I doubt that we will see it happening while P has these quasi-religious, closed thinking issues.
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

yeah i agree but let's think about albums with no 'dirty' songs or songs he has performed since joining the jw cult; he should at least allow and work with a great mastering engineer remastering these. He should do it as a nod to the fans who have stuck with him and just want to hear his material the best it can be

Everything from 89-93 sounded suberb. That was the best time ever for sonic quality. The above albums however sound better than everything from 99 on.

Everything from 89-93 sounded suberb. I'm especially impressed with GB; it sounds better than 99% of albums released today. That was the best time ever for sonic quality. The above albums however sound better than everything from 99 on.
