So...Am I ever gonna get to see a Prince show?

These long-term London and LA gigs are pretty fucking sweet, and I think it's damned cool he's apparently managed to set up some sort of arrangement that pleases him.

But this is leaving out a lot of loyal fans around the world who just don't have the money or the ability to get chunks of time off work at a whim to go see the show.

I know I bitch about this a lot. Probably too much, even. But I'm feeling kinda left out of all the fun. What's Prince got against Western Canada? We got heavily left out of the Musicology tour, and dates for ONA weren't announced far enough in advance for my then-17-year-old self to stand a chance of going.

Yeah Musicology did not come this way. Artists always seem to hit Toronto for some reason only. There is more to Canada than Toronto if you look at a map smile

I remember the tix being announced at the last minute for ONA at the Jubilee in Edmonton. I bought my tix right away. Awesome performance.

Recently went to Vegas to attend a meet up and see Prince perform at 3121 which was an outstanding performance.

Sounds cool. smile

Canada's a HUGE country. I know we don't have the population of the U.S., and no offense, but I can sort of understand Prince skipping over the Prairie cities. I don't know if there's a whole lot of market out there. lol But what about Vancouver or Victoria? Surely one of those cities he could've filled up the venue no problem.

I'm not 100% on this because it was 5 years ago, but I seem to remember not hearing anything about tickets for the Van. ONA show until 3 days beforehand, and I was actively looking for a way to get some. 3 days is just not enough notice to leave school for a day or two, not to mention the money I (didn't) have to pay for a trip out there when I was 17.

Agreed notice for the ONA tix was very short notice (less than a week). Thankfully I had the money to buy a ticket.

And that's one of my reasons for going to 3121 when I was attending the meet up in Vegas.

It looks like he is enjoying that approach. He sets up camp in one place so he can relax, rather than travel, between concerts. Maybe non-stop flights and bus trips were wearing him out. It would wear me out, and I'm half his age! lol

My ass, we do. You want to explain to me how someone pulling in less than 10 dollars an hour is supposed to fly halfway around the world at the last minute ?

Yeah....
I don't mind spending my hard earned money, but he would at least have to make it feasable for some of us. LA/LV is a long way from SC. Even to fly!

nod

I was so pleased to hear of the low prices for the London gigs. So few big name artists even consider doing something like that. Most shows with star artists run at least 80 bucks for the shitty seats, and into the 100's if you want to sit somewhere you can see the stage.

But still, airfare is nothing to sneeze at. Being able to pay what amounts to less than 50 dollars in Canadian funds for a show and aftershow is wicked awesome, but the excitement is dampered somewhat by retaurn airfare to London nearing $1000. sigh

Prince may be only one man, but he's also one rich man with access to resources to make a show anywhere in the world a feasible venture. I don't mind him touring less often or doing less shows if it were to mean he'd spread out the concerts geographically so more fans could come see him. We're not all English and Californian, Lil Man.

meow, I can imagine how you must feel, and I wish I had something to offer other than "I'm sorry."

My hometown of Cleveland got some pretty notable acts, but on occassional tours would bypass the town in favor of Columbus, Detroit or Pittsbugh. Cleveland's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum doesn't even have its own induction ceremonies, because an annual production of that size wouldn't be cost-effective to hold in the northeastern Ohio market. Instead, they're all held in New York City, which ENRAGES most Clevelanders who care! pissed

Toronto is quite the opposite. We get everything along with Montreal, and it has struck me as quite crappy for western Canada -- especially the prairies.

I guess in the end, it all boils down to the dollar, which is unfair to so many of us.

Now that you're older, would you drive to Vancouver, Seattle or, say, San Fran for a show?

Yup! I know how you feel...I live in the Interior of BC...Kelowna! I was fortunate enough to get out to Vegas a couple of times, but London, LA, and now Minneapolis is just too far at this time. Well I don't drive, but at least now I've got the money -and credit cards if necessary -to go to a show if he ever bothers to come around this way again. It's still a trick and a half to get time off work last minute, but I'm craftier now than I used to be. lol

To justify hauling my cookies across the country for Prince I'd damn well better be getting a backstage pass and license to borrow his shoes and rifle through his makeup bag. lol

Looks like I'll just have to wait for the man to come back out west before I can see him live.
