Prince's Blues' Album

what songs would B on there? Prince has recently released a Jazz CD, his way. He has released a CD with an Orchestra, Kamasutra. What about a "blues' CD"? What would it sound like? or should eye ask what songs would B on there?

...well "The Undertaker" didn't get released in the end.
It was the final straw that broke the fragile Prince / WB relationship.

To be honest, even though it was supposed to be Prince's blues album, it wasn't really strictly blues. It's almost identical to the video soundtrack, apart from there being no break in "The Ride" and "Dolphin" not being the album version.

1. The Ride [10:55]
2. Poorgoo [4:25]
3. Honky Tonk Woman [3:01]
4. Bambi [4:03]
5. Zannalee (Prelude) [0:47]
6. The Undertaker [9:45]
7. Dolphin [3:43]

5 Women, for example.

...and don't you come with Kiss! That's a blues progression, but certainly no BLUES song. Maybe the demo recording.

there's a few blues numbers on "The Vault":
5 Women
There Is Lonely
When The Lights Go Down

plus tracks like...
Temptation
Zannalee (especially the original version)
Papa

& even stuff like
Joy In Repetition
& Beautiful Strange
could be considered "blues"

A blues album would b a great idea , but with new songs of course! And what about a tribute 2 Hendrix or a cover live album with songs from Hendrix , Led Zeppelin , Funkadelic , James Brown , Sly , Santana ...

call me crazy, but I put "Under the Cherry Moon" on a "Prince Blues" tape, a few years back, because of the bluesy piano runs P does during that song's bridge.

Call me a nitpicking idiot, but in the Guitar Magazine
interview back in the day;

The interviewer got to listen to "The Ride" [10:55]
version and commented on it, calling it blues.

Prince then said:

"People have called it that, and although it does start
out in that glass of water, it quickly moves into another
vein".

Don't ask me what that means tho smile

Poorgoo - WICKED tune! P's guitar; Michael B's drums - classic NPG. "Poorgoo, PoorgOO-OO" Love that second bit!

I wish the guitar intro on The Undertaker version of 'Dolphin' had appeared on 'The Gold Experience' version, too. It sends shivers down my spine each time I hear it.

In the same interview, Prince said that he had recorded a blues album. NOT The Undertaker - this is NOT the blues album people talk about, and was never intended to be a blues album. He described this in the interview (if memory serves) as underground or garage music. There is a separate blues album in the can, and I'm sure I'm not the only person who would absolutely love to hear it, right?

Oh,God when I watch The Undertaker on video I just Trip out. Talking bout Great Jamming ...Wow. I love the songs he chose. I can just go crazy when he does his Guitar Solos. That Man just makes me lose my Composure.. Damn It! When he does Blues in C...If I Had A Harem and just his Power Fantastic it's just so Sultry. His Compositions and the way he plays his Instruments well it's just so Entrancing and Oh, So SEXY and Oh So Compelling. He's Totally Intoxicating with his Music.
