Anyone else surprised by this 'sudden' outbreak of Prince activities? I must admit, i am a bit surprised by this sudden 'outbreak' of Prince activities this summer.
I mean, the last 10 years or so, it seemed like Prince was moving into terrority more common for 'settled superstars', but look at what we are informed about in the last weeks: Prince bringing the 3121 concept from Las Vegas to LA, a new website, a new parfume, concerts in London, a new CD. I mean, in terms of activity, it reminds me of his busy agenda in the late eighties. Is he manic again? In a 'lovesexy' kind of way (album and tour)? Is he saying the music world goodbye for a number of years? Is he really gonna travel around the world and study the bible for at least 5 years? And does it mean his new CD will be another artistic/manical-personal 'statement' like Lovesexy was in 1988? Its hard to put my finger on 'the mood' he is into at this moment, but i must admit i am surprised by the sudden 'explosion' of news concerning his activities. What are your opinions on this?

I think his divorce is final and he wants to make money again. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

nah, it's time for him to bust out with something big. i think he meant to last year, but various circumstances prevented it (and no, i don't know what those circumstances are, i'm just speculating).
hopefully he's in a better place now logistically, and he can drop a few surprises our way this year!

I'm not being cynical -- it's true. That's a big part of why his activity was so limited last year. His no-prenup-havin' buhind was giving up enough. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I think he wants to get it all in before he goes away again like he did with Musicology. Big run then nothing for almost 3 years!

Well depending on where you are its all relative. Here in NYC he really hasnt done anything since the BUTTER show and GMA, sure he played Vegas,LA, and now overseas, but it still is very localized, so i dont view it that way. If he was doing a a run of shows all over and overseas that would be different but i dont view it as an increase in activity at all. There were times when i was at a show every other week back in 2004, but to other people he wasnt doing anything. "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

Personally I think he is good for the music industry that he so disdains. I was telling a co-worker today that music needs a seriouis jolt. Prince could definitely be on the verge of doing just that. I feel bad for the youth that has to listen to the likes of Lil Mama and the Pop lock and drop it gang. I'm not an old fogey but often find it hard to listen to 'urban' radio. I am looking forward to that 'renaissance' real soon. If Prince is a player in it so much the better.

Perhaps he's taking advantage of the spotlight he's received from the superbowl performance? I don't think he quite had a "shot in the arm" from the Vegas shows. The superbowl was truely an impetus. Corporations are pursuing him and he's still a valuable commodity.
As with all one-man businesses, there's going to be a setback with a divorce. He's just bouncing back. Plus he's nearing 50 and it's something to think about. Although I didn't.

Prince can make 3 million dollars in a few months work and how hard or long do you really think he works. He can afford a few more wives if he wants them, and still take care of the ex's!

If you compare how much money he made in the 80's, he makes close to nothing with the gigs he's doing now. Back in the 80's he was putting a new album out every 5 minutes and toured all over the planet(not just England). Plus he was a mega-star back then and had way more fans than today. There wasn't hardly any competition for him back then when he was on the height of his creatifity. 3 million seems like a lot of money to normal people, but for prince and his lavish life-style 3 million is nothing. On top of him blowing money on himself, he has lots of people on the pay-role, plus 2 ex-wives. He won't be dying from starvation for lack of money (even though he looks like he is on a starvation diet at times) but he has to continue to bring in some money if he wants to maintain his over-the-top life style. love the one who is Love!

I agree. When you develope a high standard: houses, cars, clothes, wine, best food, best anything..... less is unacceptable. And requires a steady income to maintain. On the other hand, you reach a point of never being satisfied. You're at the highest point: where to from there?

A sudden burst of activity, then he could go quiet for years for all we know. I prefer the days when he spread his activities throughout the year, touring different countries for a few months and hearing all the different reports (and boots!) coming in, and having a website where there was new music every now and then.
This could be the storm before the quiet!

I think that he planned all of this to get back into the spotlight for his new "run" of activities. First American Idol (to get his name spoken among young fans) then 3121/Vegas to rally his loyal fans and gain new ones. What else can be said, he is a musical and business savy genius If I could be muse 2 the Pharoah......
