Thoughts on Prince taking a break after London shows

So, Prince is to have us believe that after the London shows he's going to take a break for a while to travel and study the bible.

I'm actually pretty pleased. Not so much about the bible study, I think he's been doing plenty of that already with LG [BTW, one of the current Bass oriented magazines features Larry on the cover and he discusses how prince approached him to teach him the bible]. But Prince taking time out to travel - well yes, this has to be a good thing and i'd say take a long time out and see and do different things even if it means no new music or concerts for a long time. Of course he's been to many places in his life, but it's always been work which is totally different. I think he deserves a break and us fans have become somewhat spoilt by comparison with expectations of constant new material and tours. Eventually Prince would take the influences of a few years out travelling and express them musically in fresh new ways anyway which is an exciting prospect if you ask me.
Anyone agree or would a musical absence by Prince be too much to bare??

I agree that his musical output would benefit greatly by travelling and living life. I remeber susan Rogers commenting on how his music evolved in a positive way when he spent time in London & France during the mid 80's

He needs a life outside of music to fuel his creativity once again

I just don't think that he's the type of person that can take a substantial break, even if he wanted to. At least he couldn't in the past (for the most part, that is). Who knows about these days though. Can somebody who apparently has music flowing out of his pores take a break? I'm not too sure.
I've got a guitar that can part the sea.

yep, he's never been able to do it before, so that's what makes it really interesting. But he's performed and released a lot over the last few years so maybe it's time, plus he's approaching 50 (whether he's keeping track or not) he'll have to slow down and take time to do these things while he's still going to enjoy it. Us poor buggers have to wait until retirement to get the opportunity to really take time off to travel (if we wanted to) and by that time as a 67 year old I'd probabably just want my slippers and sofa and I'd be looking back wishing I was only 40!

Travelling doesn't mean he will benefit from such a different prespective on the world or that his misic will change for the better. Had he travelled too far when he recorded Dirty Mind, 1999 or PR? NO. Susan Rogers and Vernon Reid were wrong, the former for suggesting that as a fact, the other for saying P'd music would be "in a different place" because he was so happy... Hah, IMO, the more tortured P is and the more inslated he is the better his music is

Or he may realise that he actually doesn't miss it one little bit and decide to retire for good, join a cult and live in the mountains?

One thing to keep in mind is that when people study the Bible, the more they learn, the more they want to learn. So there's never really a point where it's "enough", because there is always more, and your appetite for The Word grows and grows. I just hope that it does not become all-encompassing and take Prince away from music (which I wholeheartedly believe is his purpose on Earth).

yep, don't disagree. And I'm not bemoaning his decision to study and neither does anyone have the right to, I just didn't find it interesting news as we all know he's gonna comtinue doing that for exactly the reason you say.

If you are willing enough to listen to the father upstairs and he abodes to you the moments and experiences to travel and view people, places and just know what has been created... then truly you are on a quest of a victorious life changing experience that most never earn in divinity to view... truth be told it takes the divine will of your own to make the changes that are ment to be for you. Most take the easy road... but if you seek hard and long enuff you can view the most amazing experiences in life, if you only say it to yourself with the simple words - "I am taking a break and getting to whom I AM, originally created in the perfection THAT I AM." Go for it, as eternity is at hand..."

Prophet = (to view what is given to you with divine wisdom and truth/to share without question or fear).

Take care,
