"Head" at school OMG! So at the school where I teach, they always play music during snack and lunch (it's a high school). Today is the seniors' last day and they have been playing music all day. All of a sudden.. what do I hear!?? HEAD!!!! It got to "I got to have you in my bed-" and it was cut.
I heard it and I got a bit bashful hearing those lyrics blasting at school. Has it happened to u that Prince's lyrics have made u *blush* cuz of ur surroundings? It also happens to me sometimes if I'm with my little cousins and one of Prince's sexually charged songs comes on. I feel the need to change it. The funny thing is, I started listening to Prince when I was 13 and my first album was COME.

I feel like that when my kids (boys, soon to be 2 and 4) are listening with me. I have already stopped playing some stuff, for fear of them repeating it at preschool. Can you imagine how horrible it would be to have to explain it. get on out there and dance, DANCE i said!

Ahh, those were the days...I loved a bit of Head at school!
Don't know if growing up listening to Prince's explicit stuff was a good or bad thing? Not what I would tell kids to listen to, but you know how it is, once you get sucked in (pardon the punn!)you just gotta keep listening and buying everything, no-matter what anyone else thinks.

i'm from germany and my english is not the best until now, but i learned a lot by translation prince from english to german. but many words i didn't find in my translationbook. i was 12 or 13. a boy in my school were from the uk and every time i ask him (whats the meaning of "jack u off" or "what's means "head" in the context of this song?), his face gets red, sometimes he won't give me the answer. all is full of love

Funny thing is I had a similar thing happen with "Head"... I used 2 work as a make up artist at Nordstrom (which as those people who shop there know is an upscale conservative store)... we host big make-up events where we hire a DJ for the day and have thousands of customers come get their make-up done. The DJ we hire knows how much I looove Prince so he always puts on Prince throughout the day when we do these events. I was totally shocked to hear him put on Head! I was like ooh no I think he must have forgot the lyrics to this one! It didn't make me blush I was enjoying it. I was wondering if someone would notice and make him cut the track. To my amazement it played all the way through and no one even seemed to notice! I never in my life thought I would hear Head playing in an upscale department store blasting so you can hear it all the way up to our 3rd floor!

I can remember this happening
on a ride home from school one day it was with my aunt (preacher's wife) and she happened to have the secular/urban station on so "Do Me, Baby" comes on and when it gets to his "oooooh (uuuuh) oooooh hooooo (uuuuuh) OOOOOH HOOOOOH uuuh (OOOOOH...)" I turned beet red that part of the song always makes me blush LOL even when alone because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind."

I when I started high school Crystal Ball was on the shelves, so needless to say P wasn't the big thing (to anyone else in that school but me) at that moment. 'A pillow covered in all our tears'

Our high school volleyball team was really good (went to state every year). One of our biggest rivals had a girl named Nicki on their team. So everytime we'd play them our team would cue up the Purple Rain tape in the boombox (okay, yes this was before CDs) to Darlin' Nikki and blast it during warm ups to try to psyche her out.
One time the coach got so annoyed with Prince's "screaming" in the song that he made them turn it off. (I was only in junior high at the time, but I distinctly remember this as a spectator in the bleachers...one of my earliest "Prince memories" lol)

I was playing Little Red Corvette pretty loud once and there were all these tradesmen just outside working around house. My mother came in and she's like "Uhh, how's all the sexual lyrics going?"
I was just thinking "Pfft, that's nothing!"

I enjoy hearing him at school and to know that some young people there listen to him. All my students know I love Prince

in middle school, 1984, they had a record player in the cafeteria
we were allowed to bring records and play them during lunch dance, whatever -- even local teen bands could come play at lunch anyway, one of the most popular songs to get played day after day was... "Darling Nikki" we really thought we were getting away with something

The one i most remember was....
My Parents having a New Years Eve party (sadly with my dad as the DJ ) When suddenly my mum say's, hey why don't u play that new record u bought today.and gets out my copy of Erotic City! I swear i've never wanted to die so quickly watching all my family, including the grandparents bopping along to the song and then the slow realisation when they actually paid attention to the words!! That got me grounded for a week oh them were the days..... "Fella's would u look at that tail............... would u eva....."
.....I don't do this because i have a choice.........it was pre-determined b4 my birth.........

Ahhh yes! When my boys (4 and 7) are in the car there are lots of Prince songs I can't listen to. I knew I had to sensor when my 4 year old was running around saying, "Let's Work! Work it!"

I'm just waiting for a chance to introduce her to his tamer stuff...She dances too and thinks Prince dances 'girlie' lol
