Prince in your wedding??

Yeah, very unusual thread title coming from me, and like most threads people start, I created it so I could first tell my story and then ask for yours.

Okay, so here's mine...

I recently got married. In typical Prince-like fashion, my wife is also much younger than me (my first (and only) marriage, btw). My wife loves the color purple -- her previous bedroom was covered in purple, and she often buys purple clothes, hand soap, towels, etc. Funny enough, she works at the biggest hospital in town whose color is purple, and the main place where I work also uses purple as its main color (in all of its marketing, promotions, etc). Anyway, the main color for our wedding was purple (purple, silver, white, and black actually). We had purple tablecloths and purple napkins, and a lot of purple accents throughout. Our wedding cake designer built our cake on this theme. It was a 7-tier cake, white cake with raspberry layers, white frosting, white roses, purple flowers (unfortunately too early for lilacs), and purple ribbons streaming down from the top. We're still getting comments about how beautiful the cake looked (and tasted). Anyway, when we got back from our honeymoon in Israel, my wife was browsing through some websites and found a picture of our cake on the cake designer's website. I clicked on the thumbnail picture to open up a larger picture of the cake, and I noticed that our cake designer had named our cake. The name: Purple Rain.

Too cool, eh? Outside of a couple stories I've shared here and there, most no one knows of my connection to Prince, so I thought it quite funny.

Besides that, I did showcase one Prince song in the background during our reception: "Beautiful, Loved, and Blessed" -- it was very fitting for the mood, and the lyrics were perfect for the day and the subtle Christian theme of the wedding.

I did place Prince's name on the invite list and had a label printed up, but decided at the last minute not to invite him. Yes, I feel there's a slight chance he would've shown, but when I thought about it, I didn't think it'd be a good idea if he did -- it would totally change the focus of the wedding. The same reason why one of my musician friends bowed out from doing a small set during our reception -- he didn't want to take the focus of off us (me and my wife).

One more trivial note: Before we were married, the only Prince song my wife could name was "Kiss" (I did say she was young). And being the spiritual person that she is, I started to slowly introduce her to Prince's more spiritual songs. She has liked all of them. But when I recently started to share some of his other "safe" songs, she didn't seem interested. No problem though. At least I can play the spiritual ones around her (which includes most of my personal favs anyway).

Now your turn. Where was Prince in your wedding or the wedding of a friend or family member (intentionally or unintentionally)... ??

I was allowed three Prince songs to play at our reception. I know I chose Alphabet St and Raspberry Beret... I can't for the life of me remember what the third one was..... This was in 1998, so nothing after that, obviously. It may have been Head... I can't remember if I was feeling ironic at the time or not.

I had "Arboretum" playing at the signing of the register, NEWS and Karma Sutra playing quietly in the background of the meal.

I also had my slow dance to an unreleased ballad which I can't discuss as I was "loaned" a copy from officals sources for one day only.

Apart from the slow dance, I kept it all subtle. Purple was our wedding colour though!

Not very original -

I surprised my wife with a tongue-in-cheek lip-synch serenade to "Adore". People were either laughing or cringing but it was fun and she loved it. There was heaps of funk - Adore was followed by Parliament's "Give up tha Funk".

Oh, and after I proposed I played her "Friend, Lover, Mother, Sister, Wife".
"We've never been able to pull off a funk number"

JEDINATION

my wedding was back in 1991, and the reception had an hour of nothing but Prince and Related music (once the old folks left)
and on our change of addy cards we passed out it said something like
"Dreams, they do come true...Under the Cherry Moon"
I think that might have been it..

If I'm lucky enough to get married to a Prince fan, I'm going to get him a symbol shaped groom's cake.

When my wife & I got married(Aug 2006) I couldn't decide on one Prince track to be played at our reception. If I had one, I had twenty five. I did supply our DJ with a secert stash of Prince Music just incase our guest... my friends, began to make some special request. I did inclue the song Power Fantastic as the last tack on the CD that we gave out as part as our wedding favor bag. I've always loved that song I would have to say that it's my all time favorite... Power Fantastic I know that It's not really about love for another person per say, but it's so spiritually touching and it capture that emotion I feel toward my beautful wife to be. I'm not trying to be sappy but it powerful & wonderful fantastic song... I thank Prince for sharing such a beautiful moment with us. Also the funny thing was that the Pastor who performed the wedding was a dear friend of mine who was like older brother who introduced my to my 1st taste of Prince when I was just a little kid and I've been a fan ever since.

Also i closed the reception with an unplanned performance of Purple Rain... the last 2 songs played were The Purple Medley which was followed by Purple Rain. This was totally unplanned and the DJ know i was a Prince Fan... So i took the stage in front of the DJ and with mic in hand I performed the entire song to my new wife and guest. It was a sight to be seen with arms swaying from side to side and lighters waving also. It was very wonderful and I thank my beautiful wife Lisa for loving me!!!!

I would like to have a Prince song in my wedding, but there are a couple things standing in my way. 1. My man hate's my Prince obsession, and probably won't want Prince invloved in our special day, and 2. Even though Prince has written many beautiful ballads, it's hard to find one that doesn't have some sexual content, which may offend some of my family members. I should probably wait until the time comes to worry about it.

During the lighting of our unity candle, we had Venus de Milo playing. During dinner, Kama Sutra (darn DJ stole the CD too!!) and our first dance was to 'The Greatest Romance'.....subtle, but it expressed our mutual love and respect for PRN.....

I got married on February 14, 1997. We eloped after basically proposing to each other while making love to Adore....Let's just say my honey didn't know the full reason why I chose Valentine's Day, but when I told him he was totally cool with it. We got married at the courthouse and there was no reception. I gave him the lyrics to Adore on our wedding night and he still has them....

Surely, at least one guy here has asked his bride to walk down the aisle to 'Head', played 'Wedding Feast' continuously for an hour before the food is served, and then rounded off the perfect day by dancing with the bridesmaid to 'Let's Pretend We're Married'?

I got hitched last September at Disney World & did the whole reception entrance "And know for the first time ever, Mr & Mrs...." thing to Lets Go Crazy. I edited the track just to play "Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to get to this thing called life"& then cut directly to the opening guitar riff & rest of the song.

Since everyone knows I'm a huge Prince fan, the crowd let out a cheer at the first keyboard sound of it & the kicker was the DJ introduced us with "Special Guest"...and we then rolled in with Mickey Mouse!

A friend later said he thought I was going to come in with a Prince impersonator after hearing the announcement, but that might have been a little much....

All of these weddings sound beautiful. I wish I could see pics. Anyone??

Since I am divorced (thank the gods/goddess) razz , will probably never be married again...(can't find anyone to wear a thong and legwarmers for me).. I have already written out my will. Prince songs, and purple tulips only.

hmmmm....this is depressing. sad

No, it's not!!!

We're all excited
But we don't know why
Maybe it's cuz
We're all gonna die

And when we do (When we do)
What's it all 4 (What's it all 4)
U better live now
Before the grim reaper come knocking on your door.....

Oh man we did it up pretty good for our wedding. Our colors were purple and green. Our first dance was DIAMONDS AND PEARLS. My mother/son dance was SHE GAVE HER ANGELS. And the topper was a music video/slide show that I put together with green screen effects and all to FRIEND,LOVER,SISTER,MOTHER/WIFE. There wasn't a dry eye in the house. Even the DJ said that was the coolest thing he'd ever seen at a wedding.

A filmmaker friend of mine had a small 4x8ft green screen and we set it up in my house and did the green screen stuff in one day. I had storyboarded everything out ahead of time and shot the entire video in 2 days. We used Final Cut Pro HD and had a blast with it. I wish I could put it on YOUTUBE but I'm afraid the Purple Hammer will come down on me. smile
