Weirdness is basically all in the eye of the beholder.
Prince is full of contradictions... of course people would think he's weird (sometimes insane)... this is of course those who are ignorant and don't know him like we do.
Being a little odd myself, I have a different view of what weirdness is. Being an animé fan, I've seen a lot of weirdness. My dad accused Miyazaki of doing drugs when he did "spirited away"... but I've only come across one or two series where I can't deal with the weirdness... With Prince, its kinda of the same thing. But I already had a huge respect for him, so it'd take a lot of w/e to make me turn my back on him. I learned early on how sexual his material was... an area I knew little about and kinda avoided most of my life  and I also found that he curses quite a bit, maybe even more than I hear on a daily basis on my college campus. I found that unusual, but I dealt with it. Now I look at it just like I don't care (and with certain songs, I do kinda craze his bad-boy side these days).
That's beyond the point though. The ignorant say someone is weird cuz they don't understand them. I know Prince has reasons for acting the way he does... but I think people can learn a lot from him cuz he does things that no "normal" person would dare to do. And he's extremely honest in his work, he uses the full extent of the 1st amendment. How many people today would have the guts to do that when Prince did in his younger days? Here's a lil sampler basket for ya: -He wears heavy makeup CONSTANTLY -He either doesn't do interviews or he mumbles a scripted response through them -He speaks and writes in riddles. Why not just have done one and distributed it to each magazine/newspaper/tv show that needed a copy? It's not like we learned anything more or gained any extra insight or even heard a change in sentence structure by having multiple mumbled interviews.
