Do you think Prince wears it?
No, that's not what I was gonna ask.
Do you think this would have been better as a QVC thing?

Cannot wait to see what this is going to smell like, its right up my alley, I wear Sandlewood/Vanilla/Patchouli oils mixed together, have been for years. I am not a huge fan of florals, but mixed with the spices, never thought about doing that. My goal and it has been acheived is to walk around smelling like a incense stick.... lol

O.K., I was wrong--I thought he was going to sell this stuff for WAY more. I don't wear a lot of perfume, so I'm definitely going to have to try it before I buy. But then again, like someone else said, if I don't like it, I'll give it to my mom, who loves perfume. I'd still want to buy it since the money is going to charity.

I would imagine that it's harder for some to market a scent. Like when you think of Prince/the world of Prince, does a scent come to mind? Either way, I'd rather buy a scent from the older Prince than the younger. You get the feeling that it will be more refined.

The brand is already built in, so it can do really well. Word of mouth may even sell it, but the X factor is that it will have to actually smell really good. I hope it does.

I'm picky about scents but I'll buy this one just because.

That's sort of the feeling I'm getting from the description. If so, it seems like a scent for the Granola Birkenstockers, but then that doesn't really match the bottle. I guess he can tell them it has healing powers or something.

Though I'm not big on florals, I'm hoping this one is more floral and that the other scents just cancel out all the sweetness...only because it would probably be a closer match to his present image, the women he's usually surrounded by and the bottle.

The incense stick thing seems much more Lenny Kravitz.

"3121 is a white floral scent that opens with a refreshing sparkle of crisp bergamot, opulent jasmine and gardenia. Orange flower and muguet sensually intertwine with tuberose and ylang ylang, creating a subtle, mysterious blend; evolving into notes of patchouli and creamy sandalwood. Precious cedarwood and luxurious musks complement this sexy scent with an almost surreal draw that tugs at all senses for total captivation."

I wonder if it's tested on animals? Prince is still a vegan ain't he?

Yes, it's been tested on rabbits and compared to the rabbits that went out who weren't wearing 3121, the ones wearing it were hitting it off left, right and centre.

I have allergies, so I don't wear perfumes, esp. not flowery scents. I like scents like vanilla and citrus for air fresheners and things. I would prefer 3121 to be less like a garden...

I'll buy it for charity and either give it as a gift, or just keep the bottle to evaporate along with "Get Wild". neutral

If they are going to raise $500,000 through perfume sales alone, using the 7% of sales that will be donated to charity, they will need to sell $7.1 million dollars of perfume or just under 229,000 bootles of 3121 at the bargain price of $31.21.

To reach 229,000 bottles would mean that every second 2.65 bottles of perfume would need to be sold on 7/7/07.

They must be calculating proceeds from a performance to reach the $500K. Otherwise those numbers would be impossible..

how many cd's did 3121 sell in its first week? just checked...it was 181K. how in the world is he gonna sell that many bottles of perfume? he best be giving away a cd with it...and a chance to hang out at the wonka factory.

Considering there will be a "24-hour online charity event" I'm thinking it's gonna be more than perfume sales. lol

That press release makes it sound like it:

"The fragrance was created in full concert with the artist, resulting in an enticing scent that captures the essence of his eclectic style and music genius."

I hope not, though. They should have included a line that he created this scent for his ideal woman. That's more appealing to a woman than smelling like someone's "music genius".

I guess we will have to wait to find out if this will be broadcast Eastern or Pacific time.

like always with prince's online happenings, all european fans will stay
up until 5 in the morning and nothing will happen until about 8 PM or an
hour later in the US.

biggrin

i wonder if a performance will be broadcast online?

anywho, if he really wanted to make big bucks for this scent he should
release it as a double package.

you get an EP of like 5 new songs, or a complete aftershow download and
that bottle of perfume will be mailed out to you. all for 31.21

especially with a product available within seconds, like a download the
sales would be much higher.

people want prince music and that's what they will shell out their cash
for. a perfume is ok but it's not something everyone who buys his music
will be tempted to spend money on.

if it was part of a deal where you get a couple of download songs that
you can access instantly once you order, it would be much more appealing
to much more people.

This sounds tragic. I, for one, have no interest in a Prince fragrance, and aside from the odd nutter I can’t believe anyone else does – and I have a stupid police cap with chains on the front from the Camden NPG shop (which I still cringe about buying 12 years on - £95!!!!! and I was a student).

His timing is incredible, the same day as Live Earth? The press coverage will be non-existent, which is probably a good thing. This goes against everything he should stand for if he wants to be taken as a credible artist, which I sincerely believe him to be.

It looked like he had a decent PR machine in place over here in the UK after his recent visit. This kind of naff crap makes him look like a knob. 7% to charity!! Big deal. Celebrity endorsed smellies can only ever be totally cheesy. Pull this product.

I am glad I have a Live Earth ticket, otherwise I would be one of the many sad Europeans waiting up all night.

I'm hoping for the incsense to be on sale too. I didn't buy any when I was in Vegas and everyone raves about it. I would be more likely to burn, than to put perfume on. cool
