My thoughts on Come cont'd

I think it's starting to make its impact on me. Last night, I was contemplating which album 2 listen 2, so I picked it up. I had Pheromone in my head and I looked over the lyrics a little b4hand.

Pheromone & I have kind of a complex relationship. Depending on the mood I'm in, I can either love or just plain like it. Sometimes it has to hit me just right for it to make a good impact on me. I guess it's kinda strange cuz it breaks the chain started by the 1st 2 tracks that are kinda one-on-one/personal. I find them comforting/relaxing cuz of that.
And I tend not to like it [Pheromone] & Loose at the same time. I'll either love one & not-really-like the other.

Loose! continues to impress me, though. You'd think that Prince isn't the type to write in the techno-genre, but that's as brilliant as he can get. Its whole message reminds me of the bridge of "Love" that goes:
I see u standing with ur back on the wall. U better, better get ur hands up and clap with that song... I've come a long way with that song cuz I wasn't too crazy about it in the beginning.

Papa intrigues me still. It's like him storytelling, but it carries a message along with it. The line:Everyone feels some kind of pain I think also includes him as he was at the time.

Dark was more of a miss, but I guess the other tracks just sounded better. Solo is extremely personal to Prince, its like he had one of those "moments" when he felt he had to get something off his chest.
Letitgo has me singing along, so I think it's become my favorite on the album. And it gets a whole new perspective to Prince's "inner struggle" during that time. So it & Gold share some similarities. Here he's coming to grips with his "recording addiction", and in Gold, he's coming to grips with the person he truly wants to be.

Just thought I'd let u guys know.

I just have a simple relationship with it: Every time I hear him sing "All my vital signs move up a couple o' notches," I get the funky tinglies. Totally hooked on that song.

P.S. I love the title of this thread. It made me giggle. I need to grow up.

btw, this is after my 5th listen.

Not sure that'll really affect any comments, but figured I'd add that little thing.

sigh nothing with Prince is ever simple for me. I always gotta have a few complex relationships with his work.

i remember when radio 1 were plugging this album back in summer 94 - the jingle was a voice like Sean Pertwee's declaring "The new album from Prince... has COME!"

happy days. The title track and Race are my particular favorites. And Dark was on regular rotation during a melo'd out party phase of a couple years back. Lush.

right now, I'm kinda convinced that the album has "moments"

Certain songs like Dark & Pheromone, I only really get into when the moment is just right. I dunno why right now.

It took me a while b4 it made any sort of impact that increases its replay value.

I'll say this in favor of it.

The vibe of it is so chill that I feel like I trust Prince more than I do while listening to The Gold Experience...

kinda ironic, though... cuz the material is more "mature" in Come (the song)than Endorphinmachine or Shh... but it just works better for me... I dunno.

I love Shh... but I dunno, Endorphinmachine & I kinda got off on the wrong foot at first and I'm still kinda borderline about it. I like it some days and not so much others.

I personally think Come is justa fantastic album. The only song I don't like is Solo (which I refuse to listen to).

Phermone is probably one of my favorite songs ever, so I find it odd that you aren't really digging it? hmm I'll admit I prefer the edited version without the intro better though. It's got a good dance sexy vibe to it.

Space is the best song ever though! I didn't see you saying much about it, but I love it. Try to find the Universal Love Remix of it too drool
If you will, so will I

Now, see, artistically I think Solo is the most amazing track on the disc and yet you've entirely dismissed it - all the while wondering why someone doesn't fall head over hills for your personal favorite... lol

If u're talking to me, then yes!

I was listening to TGE yesterday, but i couldnt enjoy it quite as much cuz I still had Come on my mind (we're talking 12 hours after i listened to Come).

Those two are gonna be dooking it out for first place on my rankings. I can already tell.

While I was listening to Come, Pheromone got me real good... I still think the transition's a little bumpy from Space 2 Pheromone cuz they're from 2 diff. POV's (Come-Space is more one-on-one, Pheromone is more "this is what I'm thinking/what I've personally experience")... but its getting better and easier to deal with each time.

My favorites are Come, Space, Loose!, and Letitgo. Dark is the only one I dont get into too much... i dont hate it, but I don't get into it much.

Yeah, I was never thrilled with Dark much - not because it's a bad song but just that he seems to have to put a similar style track to that on a lot of his albums.

if u ask me, Dark is like a watered down version of "eye Hate U"... based on the events he speaks us, he'd think he'd be more bitter or angry about it... but I guess he already wrote a "hate" track... and it ended up on TGE.
