nothing compares to you

after seeing Prince in SF.....he's taken back his song: "Nothing Compares to
You" Sinead made the the music and lyrics famous with her version.
Dirt hit the casket on THAT concept. Prince always did his own soulfull expression..
He did tonight.
I'll never again associate her with it.
JOB WELL DONE!!!!

I can't imagine Prince reclaiming NCTY. He always did a cover version of Sinead's version, never has he attempted to recreate the original Family version (from '85).

What was so special about Prince' version in SF?

My favorite version of that song is Prince´s Nude tour version from La Coruna, Spain and the one from Tokyo, 1990...best version ever,no fucking duet, just Prince on the piano .
" I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

Prince's performance of it has never been like SOC's. The phrasing of the verses is different, the repeated horn riff, the harmonies on the chorus - it's all different. Very similar to The Family's version, with different instrumentation and basically a lot more feeling.

In my HO.

Is it on videotape?
Even with the Rosie Gaines version, some still think Sinead did a better job. Maybe seeing him live makes the difference. I had a pair of 8X20 Swarovski's and could see every detail of P's face while he was singing.

Yes, several videorecordings of the 1990 performances are circulating, for instance the La Coruna/Spain, Tokyo/Japan and other concerts.

Another superb rendition that comes to mind is the version he sung in Buenos Aires/ Argentina, in 1990 or 1991. That version kicks Sinead´s version´s ass 1000X.
I don´t like the "soulful" duet he did with Rosie Gaines on the "Hits" album. Rosie is cool in my book but I always found her stage presence a bit too much. She´s too much of her own star to be singing background or duets with Prince, and this song should be sung solo, anyway. The duet with Rosie didn´t make much sense.

Definitely check out the River Plate Stadium/Buenos Aires, Argentina performance of this song.
