If you had the power to go back in time...

...and could delete any album from Prince's back catalogue, which would you choose?

Think my vote would get Diamonds & Pearls. My world is a bad place for having heard it.

Though Thunder is cool tune, in my opinion....

No Mad Sex?

I'm afraid NPS is a neccessity for that song alone.

The only reason I haven't chucked it out the window is because of The One. I could take or leave Wasted Kisses. I was really disappointed with this.

Mad Sex is everything I want from an up-tempo Prince joint... it's funky, brash and cool!

And that piano hook is fucking great!

Nightcrawler

Chaos & Disorder

The first album I didn´t truly like (I know there are some nice tracks on it, but as an album, it sucks).

If I could go back I'd have a word with him about making Emancipation a double rather than a triple album. For every great song on the album there are one or two throwaways.

New Power Soul and Rave are not my favourites either - not a great musical period I think but some of that had to do with the production which didn't help things.

Even if you had the power to go back in time (and, for some reason, couldn't think of anything better to do with that power than change Prince's mind about an album - I mean seriously), I don't know how that would give you access to talking to Prince about an album. I'd hate to see you wasting your one chance at time-travel on failing to gain access to Paisley Park and instead logging on to the org to warn everyone about NPS, 1999:TNM and Rave.

Hmm, sounds like an episode of Quantum Leap...

I would'nt have him delete any, any album he has released no matter how crap they may sound, i will always be curious about the next one, because diversity is what keeps me interested.

That record is the jam. I'll admit I have a Prince-fan litmus test: if you dis "Chaos and Disorder" then you're out.

The one and only correct answer has to be 1999: The New Master wink

I think I would talk him into a different Lovesexy cover . . . I think that would've changed the course of his career for the better . . .

But to answer your question, I think I would delete NPS. The "contractual obligation" albums at least have that going for them. New Power Soul is an example of what we were to expect from the new "free" Prince? Granted, technically it's an NPG album, but still . . .

I'd have to agree with 1999:New Master - simply horrible!

New Power Soul & Chaos are the next in line

As for B-sides...

the worst of the bunch has to be 200 balloons - yikes

I was thinking the same thing!! Leave Diamonds & Pearls outta this mad

Only thing I could stand to delete would be For You, but not really, since that was a valueable learning experience neutral
If you will, so will I
