How did that tune never surface? That is one of the MAN's most touching pop-quasi ballad ever written. Not many a man can pen a tune that well!

I agree wholeheartedly. I think the unreleased version with the extended sax solo is one of the top songs he's ever written. For a long time, I thought it was the best thing he'd ever done.

It is beautiful, I think because so many critics didn't like the album a lot of songs never stood a chance.

I love this song! Both versions, even. I've never been able to figure out why he edited it down for Crystal Ball when there is 15 minutes of Cloreen Baconskin on there, and 30 seconds of street sounds between Good Love and Strays.

Crucial is an all time favorite that came from such a rich musical perioud for Prince.This is one of my most requested to hear live classics.I think it would have made an excellent addition to the already perfect SOTT album and tour.

I also think it would have worked well performed live on the ONA tour as well.

Remember, he's done the same with "Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic" cuz he felt it's like "Kiss"...

There are two versions? I only know the one on Crystal Ball. Where is the other?

I know this will seem selfish, but I like it that Crucial didn't become some big megahit. I like it as sorta a secret for people who really appreciate Prince and buy his music with little or no promotion. So in that way Crucial is like my private joy.
