-irresistible rhythm, amazing piano work, the ultimate in call-and-respond vocals on the second verse, and an absolutely killer hook on the chorus.

I wonder what Prince's favourite Prince song is?

As for me, well I could never say just one but The Beautiful Ones, Purple Rain and If I Was Your Girlfriend would be my top 3 probably.

SirPsycho

1.) We all know it's debatable (and he'd probably hah! at all our answers)

2.) I think it depends on a personal preference between ballads and alt/funk (cuz some people can't stand ballads....not me tho hmph!)

As of this moment I'd choose Mountains...simply because he sounds as if he's on the top of his game and he knows it. A strong funk groove is present but it doesn't dominate; his spirituality and opptimism is flowing; his orchestration sounds like a symphony proclaiming the pressence of new love and hope; it's light-hearted..but still earthy enough not 2 sound foolish; there doesn't seem 2 be a trace of doubt or pain (which is present in most of his work); the chorus is written like a chant or mantra for the frightened... It just feels like victory for the Prince of "For You" [who seemed unsure if love would stay around]. I could go on and on, but the whole song just sounds like his mission statement coming into fruition. like flower petals being thrown in the air...

that is

2 me of course. wink

my favorites are Open Book and Pink Cashmere.

but the most important, in terms of his career and his influence is probably When Doves Cry.

One that's not recognized as his best or anywhere close is "Another Lonely Christmas"

but I think that it is truly an AMAZING song and although not extremely thought out as his best or most popular, i think it might be one of the best songs I've ever heard. although alot of people are going to dis agree, this song is so heartfelt, sad, genuine and open hearted and different than alot of things ive heard.

and i think it's wonderful.
