LadyLuvSexxy

When this album came out originally, sister was still losing baby teeth and wearing pig tails. razz That didn't stop me, tho. I STILL remember hearing Scandalous (and mixing up the words terribly!!), still remember going to the cheer competitions and seeing a MILLION routines to Batdance.....and uh....heh...doing that infectious laugh. lol My father eventually had to beg me to stop.
Since my pops lost the original album in the great Williams cd loss of 1990, (dont look at me...i was i school!!) I had to get it myself and re-live the good times. I know most people hate "Arms of Orion"...but I can't get enough of it. This is the first song that stands out whenever someone mentions the album.I made a beautiful piece of artwork one night listening to it. At first, I could not stand the song either. It grew on me! What can I say...it's got heart. Electric Chair is kinda sexy. I don't hate it, don't love it 2 much either. It's like one of those songs that is right on the line for me. Lemon Crush makes me thirsty...lol. The name alone is making me think of lemon soda. It was seductive enough to catch my attention. Scandalous obviously is one of my favorite slow jams. I can't sing worth a damn but that song is one I can't help but sing along with. The Scandalous Suite (please, go out...find if you've never tasted) seriously brought it home as well.
Whenever I think of Batdance, I cannot help but flash back to being a little girl and watching the CSU cheerleaders (yay chicago state cougars) dance to the song. I could literally get up and do the routine myself. lol Partyman...awwww man. THIS IS THE JAM!!! o_O "When I want sax, I call Candy!!" Good GOD is this song the best. Vicki Waiting....ahh....it's kinda funny, actually. It makes me laugh. It's another song I love. I guess it's for the sound and the tempo. Seriously...Prince was a big part of my childhood. (lol I was conceived the month Purple Rain came out...shhh ^^) Trust is a personal favorite. It's almost the kind of song I'd ask a potential lover...seriously. I just love it.
The Future is a song that I find to be very very deep. Here it is 2k7 and this song is like...telling the truth. The future is indeed rough!

It's one album I could never do without.

I remember reading that when asked to do the Batman soundtrack Prince went into the studio for a number of days straight writing music.... How does a human being do this eh?

If I remember rightly, the story was that Prince was asked to do the soundtrack (TIm Burton was a fan and, apparently, Jack Nicholson insisted on it!) and came back just 2 weeks later with more than an album's worth of complete songs and went through them with Burton to select the right ones. 2 weeks??!! I mean, he probably pulled a few from the vault and re-worked them, but 2 weeks is going some!

Batman is a great album when heard on its own, but is even better in the context of the movie. The themes presented echo those of the film perfectly and Prince manages to play out his own storyline, drama and tensions, carefully displaying the dichotomy of Bruce/Batman. It fitted very well with the dualities that Prince was famous for exploring beforehand.
...we have only scratched the surface of what the mind can do...
