Vinyl EXPERTS Love or $ This has bugged me for so long, and nobody seems to know what I am talking about, but am I the only person who is aware of 2 versions of Love or $?
I have 2 copies of Kiss 12" and they are identical in EVERY way, except for the fact that one of them has a longer version of Love or $, which I still find really strange as there is no description saying it is any different. Anybody?

Yep. There is a 7" edit and the long version on the 12", same with Alexa de Paris.

in the UK I was only aware of one 12", which has the extended version of love or $ which is what i have, and the short version on the 7". Did not know there are 2 different 12" singles around though. seems silly.

That's my point, they are EXACTLY the same, even same cat.no. but there is no mention that the b-side is any different. Nothing says 7" version, extended version, edit, nothing.

Nothing says 7" version, extended version, edit, nothing. well, that's gotta be unintentional - you may have a valuable rarity there perhaps? A bit like the 4 track Paisley Park 12". I can't remember if my Kiss 12" actually says long version for Love or Money or not though I know it is. I'll check when I'm home.

As a standard, the extended version was on the US 12", while the edit was on the European 12".
Bonedaddy, are the two versions of the 12" you refer to European or US prints? .

There is an version that says Love or Money 3:57 which is actually 7:16. It's from 1988 (UK)

I love this song
ever since I heard it in UTCM for some strange reason I always thought it was on the album... I need to find this ASAP I thought I had all of the bsides from that time because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind."

Right, I'm assuming this is a UK 12" version of 'Kiss - extended version' I'm saying 'this' as they both are identical, like I said. (W8751T, with 920442-0 underneath) if this is useful?
The covers are the same, every detail. The vinyl label is the same, every detail. But on one version, Love or $ takes about 2/3 of the side and the other one takes up the whole playing side. Just assumed it would say something different somewhere, at least give track lengths or something?

Indeed not! they are both the same, with Wendy

Right... they're both 1986 UK 12's.
There was actually a mistake with the pressing of this, hence the 2 versions. The fist batches were pressed with the regular short version of Love or Money on the b-side of the 12". This is the more common version. This was later corrected to the Extended Version on later batches (which is how it always should've been). The 1988 re-release (without Wendy on the back) was only issued correctly with the long version. So original 1986 UK 12"s with the long version of Love Or Money are slightly rarer than the the versions with the short version. However, they never corrected the labels, so the only way to tell is to play it (or look at the groove length).

I did try to find out, but not in the right places obviously. Well, this was the right place in the end. Not particularly special then? Better than just having the one version though, I guess

Yes, not that special I'm afraid. Though a lot of people aren't even aware of
this particular dual pressing (even collectors!). So it's difficult to guage how rare it really is. It was a mix up that only happened with the UK pressing,. When it was originally sent to be pressed, the extended version of the b-side had been mislaid or hadn't arrived, and WB UK were unaware that they were missing it. So they just pressed them up with the regular 7" version on the b-side. Only after it had been in the chart for a while was the mistake spotted and corrected.

Oh yes! I remember when I got the Kiss 12" as a UK
import about 2 weeks before it was released here in US. It even came with a poster of the cover picture. It was the one with the short version of Love Or Money. The funny thing is that I didn't know there was an exteneded version until my friend Rev was singing those lines about vasaline slide and mayonaise, Revolution get on the bus. I'm like: what's that shit your singing and he would say it was from the Love Or Money 12" and I am like there is no Prince singing about mayonaise on Love Or Money and he, of course having the US release with the extended version insisting that was where he got it from. He had to bring his record over to my house and play it for me Then I went out and got that one "Hyperactive when I was small, Hyperactive now I'm grown, Hyperactive 'till I'm dead and gone"
