GRAFFITI BRIDGE just bought the GRAFFITI BRIDGE soundtrack by Prince from CD Warehouse yesterday. 've never seen the GRAFFITI BRIDGE movie, but from what 've read, 'm not missing much. Here is what think of it: 1. CAN'T STOP THIS FEELING I GOT A boring, old-skool rock song that sounds like it shoulda been on PURPLE RAIN instead. like the beginning, tho. 2. NEW POWER GENERATION This is a good song! luv the "Lay down ur funky weapon" line. 3. RELEASE IT The bass goes well w/ this song. like The Time. 4. THE ? OF U like the beginning of this song. It's a funky, soulful Prince ballad. 5. ELEPHANTS & FLOWERS like the melody & the message of this song, but actually think the loud bassline kinda ruins it. 6. ROUND & ROUND This is a great Tevin Campbell song, but it gets annoying cuz he repeats the same thing over & over. 7. WE CAN FUNK This is a sexy song. thought it's supposed 2 b a duet w/ George Clinton tho? didn't hear him on it. 8. JOY IN REPETITION A great Prince ballad. like the backing vocals. 9. LOVE MACHINE This song is both funky & sexy. The repeated laughs sound funny LOL! 10. TICK, TICK, BANG luv the lyrics & the percussion melody of this song. Prince's vocals sound great. 11. SHAKE! This sounds like a 60's song, xcept w/ a bassline that sounds like it's sampled from ESCAPE (FREE YO MIND FROM THIS RAT RACE). 12. THIEVES IN THE TEMPLE The big hit single from this CD, recorded in January 1990. luv the Arabian theme and the loud bass effect. The lyrics r genius. also luv the Prince scream @ the end. 13. THE LATEST FASHION like the vocals & the horns. Prince does a good rap. Morris Day's "haw-haw-haw" laugh is hilarious! 14. MELODY COOL luv the bassline! Mavis Staples sounds like a female James Brown on here. 15. STILL WOULD STAND ALL TIME This is a very beautiful ballad with a positive message. Prince's vocals are in monotone for the first half though, but luv the second half of it. 16. GRAFFITI BRIDGE This is another beautiful song, with a great chorus. 17. NEW POWER GENERATION (PT. II) It's the same music as the original, but w/ rap & different vocals. like the original better, really. also think Part II is 2 short, and shoulda just been added on2 Part I. The ending sounds like something off of LOVESEXY! would luv 2 c some opinions from people who have seen the GRAFFITI BRIDGE movie. What do u think of this album? Is it a good soundtrack 2 the film? Stuck like glue!

Hey baby, your review is about 17 years too late... No seriously, I liked the movie because it was somewhat of a "follow up" to Purple Rain, plus it was good to see Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis off of Janet's success back on the screen. There was a sense of disappointment for many fans on its original release, especially those who were familiar with the previously circulating out-takes of some of the songs.
Once the track-list had been announced, many fans drooled at being able to hear perfect quality versions of Joy In Repetition, We Can Funk, Can't Stop This Feeling I Got and Still Would Stand All Time. Sadly, Joy In Repetition lost its amazing 'slow-drum' intro, We Can Funk had been destroyed (IMO) and instead of the sensual, evocative '86 out-take, we got a very average funkfest. Can't Stop This Feeling I Got had become something that really DID sound like it ought to have been in a 1950s stage musical and it was probably only Still Would Stand All Time that lived up to the previously heard live version. Also, Thieves In The Temple and The Question Of U had also been heard before the album's release, so by the time it hit the shops, most of the Prince songs had been previously heard and so it didn't quite come across as a complete collection of new songs. But looking back now, the CD can be appreciated as the quite wonderful album that it is. The songs with the guest artists are hit and miss, but the collection as a whole is quite solid. The Question Of U is still a jaw-dropping song and I love the way that there's only one verse and then it turns into a kind of 'variations on a theme'. It's a shame that the title track has such a syrupy lyric, given that the melody is strong and the vocal performances are very good. It's good to hear a review by somebody who's hearing the album as 'new' and hasn't had their initial thoughts of the music clouded by their expectations of what it'll sound like, much like many of us did back in 1990. Oh, and although the movie is a cheese-fest and sucks donkey balls with it's ludicrous plot, naff set, appallingly dated script and acting that is marginally less good than the cast of a nativity play at a primary school, it's still worth getting the DVD if you're a fan.

When Graffiti Bridge came out, I went to the mattenee show. I was sitting alone with my 7 year old son, and some dude in a trench coat sitting in the back row.
The reason I took my son is, the movie was going to be over at 4:00pm. and my son was going to get off school at 3:00, to me at the time, the only logical thing to do was get him out of school early.

I don't think I could have said any better. Thanks for summarizing. This is a very good album. Maybe I'll go home and give it a run.

ooookay...looks like there are 2 threads about this lp right now. But it's worth repeating:
The last album by "old" Prince I love it. I'm sick and tired of the Prince fans being sick and tired of the Prince fans that are sick and tired!

Agree with JIR, disagree with "We Can Funk". Although I love the '86 version, the released version used the backing tracks from the '83 version and perfectly captured a moment from each era of P's musical evolution up until that point. Never liked any version of "Can't Stop..." and "Still Would..." also rocked. I'm sick and tired of the Prince fans being sick and tired of the Prince fans that are sick and tired!

When I went there were about 5 other people in there I took my son too but he was just a few months old and I was breastfeeding so I couldn't leave him his dad wouldn't have been able to feed him but I love that movie I even bought the tape when it came out
