I'm not nitpicking but I'm listening to Prince sing "Don't Play Me" from the 2006 10th Annual Webby Awards. However if he is against swearing so much then why did he sing "Don't play me/I'm over 30 and I don't smoke weed/I put my ass away and music I've played". I thought the Jehovah Witness relgion forbids swearing?

I don't think Ass is a swear word.

Ever notice when they edit movies on television, when they say Asshole they bleep out "hole" but not ass.

"Ass" is not a swear word. It is simply a vulgar euphemism for the back of one's front. If he changes that word (to, for example, butt -- which one could argue is no less vulgar), he loses the alliteration of "ass away" -- which is quite lovely.

I noticed the same thing when I saw the performance, but I remember back in the ONA tour that he played this song at one of the shows and replaced ass with hats, he might have said hats idk sound quality of the webby awards performance isn't the best.

It's the context, too. Not only is it not a bad word, but it's not sexual in this context, either.

At this point he might refrain from singing about "the cutest ass he'd ever seen" or an "an ass like I've never seen" or "wonderful ass" etc, but will still say "I put my ass away."

I dont see how he could sing any song that had cussing without slipping once or twice

I was under the impression that it wasn't being a JW that made him stop swearing, I think it was just that he realised there was no need for it, Larry helped persuade him I believe. Self dicipline.

I still think he says 'fuck', just not in public. He must slip some-times, he used it too much not to! There is just no way he has a clean mouth 24-7!

I don't know, Prince being Prince, I can still imagine him getting a cob-on when it don't go his way, and put out an album with strong language.
