Today's Prince press conference: amateur footage

Hello everyone! Eeek, my first post here... How exciting (and slightly intimidating)... but here we go.

So, yeah, today I was half the length of a London bus from the greatest musical genius of our time.

I sat in a purple-curtained studio near Covent Garden for half an hour, first of all watching a long promo montage about how amazing Prince is (with contributions from Pharrell Williams, Maceo Parker, Wendy & Lisa, Joni Mitchell, and for some unfathomable reason Salma Hayek), culminating in the Superbowl footage, then waiting patiently while a bloke who I presumed was the concert promoter recited a load of facts and figures: he's playing 21 nights at the O2, the ticket price will be £31.21 (see what he did there?), he'll be playing lots of hits, he'll be playing in the round on the same symbol-shaped stage he used at Superbowl, blah blah.

Then the curtains parted, and the little feller himself stepped out. The most interesting facts were that he's looking for somewhere to live in London (possibly only for August), he's giving a copy of his new album away free to everyone who attends the shows, he'll be having a variety of different support acts over the 21 nights and he hopes Amy Winehouse will be one of them, and these will be his last London shows for a long time (the paper press release I received afterwards said 'last ever') because he needs time "to study and travel".

There were giggles when, asked who inspires him, he answered "The prophets from The Bible", and, when asked what he needed to study, he said "The Bible". I think that might have annoyed him, because he walked off straight afterwards.

Anyway, here's the film clip...

[YouTube snip - luv4u]

Apologies for the shaky camerawork. I wasn't trembling with nerves, nor masturbating frantically. I was trying to operate a dictaphone at the same time.

I didn't ask a question. If I did, it would have been along the lines of "Will you be singing any songs of a sexual or profane nature?", but I think all the Bible stuff probably answers that one anyway. (I'm not expecting "Darling Nikki", "Sister" or "Gett Off"...)

Oh, and then on the way home, I saw Gary Numan getting off the tube.

Damn, he's so friggin' quiet. Just because everyone in the crowd had large ears, doesn't mean they have extra hearing capacity.

So after London, he takes time off? To study the bible?
Isn't bible study a continual thing with JW's?

Seems to me that he's setting us up to feel guilty for all the complaining we're about to do.

Everytime he mentions the Bible and/or the Prophets, I become less optimistic about the new album being good.

Thanks for sharing hug

welcome to the org hug

I so love that little man, he looked great. I think he was sort of bothered by the laughing from the reporters, he might have answered a couple more questions if they did not laugh mad

anyway I can't wait to see him in SF in 11 days! excited

That's ok, he'll have the last laugh when he has those UK fans screaming and loving those shows.

He probably will be taking time off after the big tour....not after shows in uk .
I do get the feeling that after this tour he may disappear from touring for a while..maybe that's what he meant.

This type of Study requires a HANDS on approach.

Oh. So he's found a new chick that needs to be converted.

It's probably not this, but if so: Instead of finding a pretty face and giving it a faith, I hope next time he finds the faith that hopefully has a pretty face on it.

Salma Hayek would have been interviewed because she directed his video for Te Amo Corazon and she's pretty and famous and he's still a pussy hound no matter what JW clothes he's wearing

I never thought in my wildest dreams that I would see him again so soon, went to Vegas in March and I would LOVE to see him again.
Please pm me or let us know if you have more information on the venue.
The Vegas concert calmed me down in a way (still a great admirer of him) but I am feeling excited all over again... where is my sleeping pill? lol
Thanks a lot for sharing!

Ok Ok I got it he is gonna play at the O2 Millenium Dome in Greenwich this coming Autumn.

I will have to check on Ticket Master everyday how I can get hold of one ticket *sigh* and if by some kind of miracle (I bet the events will be sold out very quickly) I manage to get hold of one, I will have to line up for the concert days before the event (I should get a sleeping bag).
I really enjoyed the fact that things were pretty easy and organized in Vegas.

People are desperate for their Prince fix in Europe, it has been a long time!, it is gonna be big!.
I think he will be upset about the way the British Media will pursue him, tabloids are terrible and merciless in this country.
During the press conference, the journalists showed their ignorance, I think most Europeans or at least the ones who like him (fams know better) don't even know that he now is a JW and that he changed his ways since the Purple Rain area.
I am sure that the events will be exceptional, I can't wait!.
All the best, Suzie xoxo
