Do you think Love Symbol is underrated? I'm here listening to it after work and all I can say that at least I personally underrated this album. I always loved certain tracks off of it, but overall I made a mistake of not really liking this album. I really think the album is great, save Tony M's wack rapping and the dumb skits.
My Name Is Prince Sexy MF The Morning Papers The Max Blue Light Damn U 7 And God Created Woman 3 Chains Of Gold I truly enjoy all of those songs. I also believe And God Created Woman is an underrated P cut. What are your thoughts? Kick the old school joint 4 the true funk soldiers.
1. Sign 'o' the Times 2. 1999 3. Dirty Mind 4. Parade 5. Purple Rain

it's not that they are downright bad cuz all the songs have sum good things but as albums i just don't like them at all. although, "and god created woman" is one of my fav prince songs it's so beautiful and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

The beginning of it just has a vibe about it that I love. In fact I really like this whole album.

I wish he hadn't tried to tell a story with the cd and the video. Because he doesn't actually put together a plausible story line. It's scarred by the rapping and 3 chains of gold has to be one of my least favorite songs of all time (except for the interlude).
ofcourse he can't make a total crapper and there are some great songs. not underrated

I think it is highly underrated. I think that I have to be in a certain mood sometimes to listen to a lot of the 90s 'rap' style NPG stuff (like The Flow), but the Love Symbol album has so many good points.
I could listen to Love 2 the 9's all day (and have), although the 'dance girl, lemme see that booty boom' bit ruins it (for me) a little. The rest of the song is totally sweet and displays his vocal range nicely! The Continental is totally playful and great to dance to as well. They are probably my two favourites but I love the whole album. I first got a taste of it on the B-side of My Name is Prince 12-inch single, on 2 Whom it May Concern. couldn't wait to hear it after that! Sounds like a real man to me...mind if I turn on the radio?

Hell yes it's underrated. In terms of styles of music on the album, it is by far the most diverse. That is why it is my number one! 'A pillow covered in all our tears'

a very creatively fun album
xcept that prince's ego's all over it "sweet baby" being the xception "Love 2 the 9s" would probably be one of my most favorite songs ever xcept 4 the change of direction it takes in total, after weighing all the pros & cons i do believe it still makes my top 10 of fav prince albums

Totally my favorite Prince album, I enjoy it immensely over all others - even 15 years later.
It's one of the few albums I can listen to from beginning to end without being tempted to skip a track. I don't even mind Tony M here, he's just another element in Prince's 'wall of sound' style arrangement. I think all but 2 or 3 tracks here could have made serviceable singles if the project had only been given the right push. Prince seemed to put more effort into the videos for these tracks, too. Now, I'll agree the story line of the accompanying video was a bit of a mess (although better than GB! ) but I've never understood why people think the released version of thealbum has a confusing story line - because it really doesn't have one at all, just spoken word segues here and there.

I think its a fun album and one of his better efforts at producing. Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

xcept that prince's ego's all over it I think the "ego aspect" is my biggest issue with this album. After 27 years prince's ego shouldn't be a surprise, but lyrically it leads him to say things like not having cream for his coffee is dramatic issue. My name is Prince , is like we didn't know that. For newbies of the time or non fans maybe, but eh? Like I said earlier, there are some great songs, but this album has had it's exposure commercially and with the hard core fans.

I really enjoy this album. i think its underrated because ppl see Tony M and immediately write it off. Bu theres some good jams on there. Didnt like the video much. Some good moments but overall it made no sense really. And Mayte didnt have to be in every video. Did you order a pizza ma'am? Prince- UTCM

Btw, I still love this album! Oh, I took it as a comment on loving the album for that long. Yeah, it doesn't seem like that amount of time could have passed. I can't believe it's been over 10 years since Emancipation now!
