A REPRIMEND TO " Is Prince BI-Polar"

To the person or persons who posted, in the Forum, trying to link Prince to a Bi-Polar label!
i STRONGLY recommend that you stop being uneducated, unlicensed wanna be psychologists/psychiatrists. You are harming Prince and you are harming everyone else by taking unsubstantiated events from his life and trying to connect it, or arguing it to be a symptom of Bi-Polar disorder.
IT IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS!!!!! and DISFIGURABLE!!!!! act to define someone's behavior as a mental or emotional disorder when you know nothing about BI-Polar, Psychology, OR the person you are labeling. IT IS DANGEROUS!!!!!
----i don't care if you read a definition of Bi-Polar Disorder, you are still not qualified to make any assumptions--- even some psychiatrists have difficulty diagnosing their patients, and they have significant years of education(lets hope) a DSM handy on their desk or bookshelf, and a License to practice. You are causing people to think things that aren't true and aren't
verifiable!!! You may even cause a reader of your written words to take this so serious that they either IGNORANTLY accuse themselves or someone else with a disorder that they do not have. Which would cause the victim life long problems and misery. Not only to them but to their loved ones as well.
FUTHERMORE!!! i would like to see and read a RETRACTION and APOLOGY from each of you guilty of writing anything about Prince and BI-Polar disorder.
This is a serious matter-----PEOPLE do not need their lives ruined by uneducated and unqualified people where Psychology is concerned. YOU DO MUCH HARM by what you wrote!
To those who are innocent, i understand, but to those who are guilty and they know who they are---- I hold you accountable.

So what if he DOES turn out to be bi polar?

It's like every unconfirmed discussion - it might be true, it might not.

First of all, it's "reprimand."

And what makes you the one to issue it?

First off, were you a member of the NPGMC forums, by chance?

Secondly, even I happen to think that some of Prince's previous behavior is indicative of emotional or mental issues. His Oprah interview alone contains a bucket full of (squirrel meat? no..) trouble.

Finally, it's not your place to reprimand anyone, nor to ask them for retractions and apologies. FURTHEMORE!!! I would like to see you spend less time thinking so highly of yourself and more time learning how a spell checker works.

How could someone be ruined because they have been diagnosed bipolar? I agree, only professionals who are intimately familiar with someone can properly diagnose bipolar. It took my son's psychiatrist several years before they diagnosed him as bipolar. YES, MY SON IS BIPOLAR, AND I AM NOT ASHAMED OF IT AND HE IS NOT ASHAMED OF IT

BUT, and I mean a big BUT HERE....my son's life is not "ruined" because he has been labeled bipolar. NEITHER OF US FEEL HIS LIFE IS RUINED because he is bipolar. Nor will he lead an unhappy life, it simply means he requires medication to keep his body on track (so to speak), just as a diabetic would take medicine to keep them on track. The proper medication can allow a bipolar person to lead a completely full, normal, healthy, happy and long life!

While I do agree that a lay person should not diagnose another they do not know as bipolar, I think your statements make it much worse than it is by stating that a bipolar's life is ruined, etc., when it clearly is NOT.

Yes, Master of Puppets!.....

Am I innocent or guilty? What will go on being guilty?

I didnt get ya. R we ruining Prince? First of all if Prince is so cleaned he dont have 2 fear what his fams say (he doesnt care less about what we think). What should he say about all bullshits written by journalists? or by various writers like that one "Slave 2 the rhytm".... Read that book and discover that whats written about Prince aint so positive....

bipolar is a frequent mis-diagnosis.....just a term used for a quick fix and a paycheck by doctors

it took my family twenty years to realize she wasn't bi-polar

prince is wierd, not bi-polar

you would be wierd too if you couldn't go to the local 7-11 without causing mayhem

rolleyes I think the stigmas that are attached to mental health problems are what hinder people from getting properly diagnosed and treated. This is not to say that I think/believe that P or anyone else is Bi-Polar. Just reading people's reaction to someone suggesting P may be Bi-Polar is indicative of the problems we have in society when addressing the topic of mental illness. IF, and I do put the emphasis on IF, someone is Bi-Polar it is not like calling them a serial killer.
If people were educated on topics like schizophrenia and bi-polar disorder perhaps they wouldn't get so offended at threads like the one aforementioned. People who struggle with these illnesses are sick and need treatment just like people who have diabetes or high blood pressure. So I don't see why a thread asking if he is bi-polar should be flamed but one asking if he's had hip replacement surgery isn't.

Wow -- Strong Words -- and while I agree that in society people need to be very very cautious with throwing allowing psychological labels regarding people's behavior - - but here is why YOU are being IRRATIONAL:

(1) The posting about Prince being Bi-Polar was EXPLICIT about saying this is NOT a psychological opinion, but rather a lay person blog post

(2) We are not attempting to diagnose a 8 year old child with a mental illness or disorder that will cause him to have a stigma for the rest of his life. We are wasting time theorizing about a CELEBRITY who doesn't read these posts and which in no way carries implications for anyone else who could be damaged by a premature, faulty, or ignorant diagnosis

3) The posting HARDLY goes into the level of detail and specifity that is required to give a clinical diagnosis of bi-polar according to any version of the DSM so no one could possibly read the post and think they may be bi-polar based on it, especially when the author of the post clearly states he is not a psychologist or psychiatrist

All in all, your intense and passionate cautious to protect people from the harm of misdiagnosed mental disorders is legitimate. However, I think it's a little misplaced in a PRINCE.ORG posting about some celebrity.

I suggest you carry the same message to District Attorneys and other members of the Criminal Justice System and Social Service System that so often labels people to incarcerate them or give them an unnecessary stigma (like antisocial disorder) that does nothing but harm them and society.
