It took me a couple years to finally understand the "the cycle never ends..." line in Pink Cashmere. I always heard it as "it's like a deviled ham...". I knew those couldn't be the actual lyrics, but that's all I could make out of that line.

You heard it right. The lyrics are "it's like a deviled ham" Go ask Prince. lol lol lol

I remember when "When Doves Cry" first came out.Me and this girl were in class, trying to write down the lyrics. We actually assumed that Prince was singing...

and in the most tricherious poses, they feel the heat
the heat between me and you

Never mind the fact that "tricherious" made no sense...lol...we thought it was simply a word that we didn't understand.Only when I bought the album and saw the lyrics,I found out that he's really saying animals strike curious poses lol

OK above posting falloff redface
was supposed to be:

falloff at the people who thought it was "standing by the fire" because as much as I hate to admit it, I thought it was "fire" at first and now it's so stuck in my brain that even though I've known it's "bar" for a while I get confused and don't even realize I'm thinking the wrong lyrics anymore. lol

One of my favorite misheard lyrics (of my own - and this was before he finished speaking lol)

Let's Pretend We're Married - I thought he said "I'm not saying this just to be nice 2 u" instead of "I'm not saying this just 2 be nasty" giggle

I thought he was being nice to her when he said " I sincerely want to f... the taste out of your mouth" That was very polite biggrin

I can imagine Prince camping. I used to see this gothy chain smoker who said once, and only once, "my idea of camping is walking more than 3 blocks to get cigarettes, and more than 4 for good eyeliner."

For some reason, I think it would be something like that with Prince.

For me...camping is staying in a hotel that doesn't have room service. lol

The most famous misheard Prince lyric was by British singer/producer Ian Broudie, who named his band The Lightning Seeds after what he thought Prince was singing in "Raspberry Beret" ("the thunder drowns out what the lightning sees...")

I always thought the line in LRC was..."pocket full of HOSES, Trojan and some of them used", which actually makes more sense. Sang it wrong for years!

Funny how many people thought it was fire instead of bar in ICNTTPOYM! lol
I just don't hear that, but I think it could be a regional/accent thing.... hmmm, where I'm from, fire and bar could never sound alike.

that's what i thought the words were until this very moment. lol

since she was in such a bad situation in the song, i just figured she was homeless and standing next to a barrel full of oily rags. redface

okay i thought abt it- i finally remembered one from the song Cream.

actual lyrics: Cream, sh-boogie bop.
my version: Cream, sugar gave up.

I liked my version for a while. now it doesn't make sense to me. i can't remember when it did make sense.

Speaking of cream i have a friend who i got to like that song (she doesn't like prince but she likes that song) and she insists on singing it like this

"Cream, get on top.
Cream, I wanna suck your cock.
Cream, don't you stop.
Cream, sugarbooty bop." whofarted nuts

And she wont sing it any other way... disbelief
