Wasn't this originally intended 4 a movie back in 91 or 92, he then did a new version in '95, which is a beautiful version.. really like the finger cymbals in it.. and the guitarwork and drum beat, all very mid '80's sounding.
During the Gold tour the video 4 Empty Room was shown at a big screen just be4 the concert. the crowd was blown away by it! so why didn't he ever release it?? We'll have 2 wait 4 the 2nd Crystal Ball I guess

Yes that's right,
2 versions, 1 was made 4 the I'll do anything movie which starred Nick Nolte, but Prince wisely withdrew all songs from this project... This version is a calmer version. I believe this vesion also turned up on a promo single from the Vault album... and the new version mostly referred 2 as the 95 version a bombastic version which is hauntingly beautiful, the video 4 it was in the same vein as the vid 4 Zannalee, Prince wore a hat with a flower on it and red dress like clothing, very weird 2 see... But the song is so beautiful it almost made me cry when I heard it first... i'm was so glad when I finally got a supurb sounding version of it!!! This is one of my fave songs Peace "Time is a train, makes the future the past"

It's not from any album, though it was one of the songs rumored to be included on the still unreleased Roadhouse Garden album. [This message was edited Fri Sep 20 0:43:16 PDT 2002 by BorisFishpaw]

Yeah the video featured Mayte in an angel outfit... as the one who was being missed... ironically, the same footage was recycled and used for the "Holy River" video. I agree that the guitar version is very moving, especially the guitar solo--Prince sure knows how to make a guitar wail and cry. The piano version he performed at the Celebration was just as moving tho... you could tell he really was slammin on those piano keys and the screaming... oh the passion. That song has been my life story of late, so it echoes plenty in my mind these days. I like the piano version much better. It's quieter, seems more honest, painful. The guitar version is... angry.

I've never heard it.
I want 2 hear it. I want 2 own a copy. Where can I get it? If I join NPGMC will they send me the song? Why does Prince torture people like this? [This message was edited Fri Sep 20 2:01:51 PDT 2002 by Biscuit] My name is BISCUIT...and I am funky!

I heard about this song from you Orgers last week and downloaded both versions. May I say thank you 4 bringing it 2 my attention. Its virtually impossible 2 B a Prince completist, theres so much out there but this song is a MUST. How it goes unreleased baffles me. Both versions are just awesome. A really powerful track.
Those who don't have this, NEED 2 have it -----------------------------------------

Just download that mutha - it's not an NPGMC release unfortunately, so joining won't help (but why aren't you a member already???). It doesn't appear that P has any plans to release it officially. But you NEED to hear it - haunting, beautiful song...

yes it is...i prefer the old version 2 the one on the vault. it's sadder, imo. Prince recorded this song at the Washington Avenue warehouse on August 4th 1985 after a row with his then-girlfriend Susannah Melvoin. This particular version, however, is NOT circulating amongst collectors. There are only two versions that can currently be heard in bootleg form: the first one is a revamped version of the original. This version was done in 1994, retaining the basic track as well as the finger cymbals of the original version (a video for this was also shot). The second version was a re-recording by Prince during the 'I'll Do Anything ' sessions in 1992. The re-make is synth led, more demo-like and slightly faster in tempo than the original version. It features the same basic lyrics, but in a different sequence. . "You don't frighten us, English pig dogs. Go and boil your bottoms, sons of a silly person."
