Lady Cab Driver

Ok I have always wondered about this part of Lady Cab Driver:

This is 4 the cab U have 2 drive 4 no money at all
This is 4 why I wasn't born like my brother, handsome and tall
This is 4 politicians who r bored and believe in war
This -- Yeah, that's 4 me, that's who that 1's 4
This is 4 discrimination and egotists who think supreme
And this is 4 whoever taught U how 2 kiss in designer jeans
That 1's 4-- That 1's 4-- 4 U have 2 live
This 1's 4 the rich, not all of 'em, just the greedy --
The ones that don't know how 2 give
This 1's 4 Yosemite Sam and the tourists at Disneyland
And this 1-- ooh! Yeah -- That's the 1.
That's 4-- that's 4 the-- the creator of man
This is 4 the sun, the moon, the stars, the tourists at Disneyland
This is 4 the ocean, the sea, the shore
This is 4-- and that's 4 U, and that's who that 1's 4
This is 4 the women, so beautifully complex
This 1's 4 love without sex
This is 4 the wind that blows no matter how fast or slow
Not knowing where I'm going
This galaxy's better than not having a place 2 go
And now I know (I know)

I mean, correct me if I am wrong, but when one says "this is" in such a way, isn't it usually meant in a negative way?
Like saying F*** THIS and F*** THAT?
However, in these lyrics he is saying "this is" in both negative and positive ways....

ANY TAKES ON THIS?

PLUS, any takes on what he actually means by "LADY CAB DRIVER"
What/who is that referring to?

I can answer what "this is" means.
If you listen closely to the sound in the background, that's a mattress squeaking. After he says "this is", that's for every stroke he's giving Lady Cab Driver. This is = strokes and I'm sure you know what a stroke is. wink

And how, praytell, would he have gotten a mattress in the back of a cab?

It's probably the springs in the backseat squeaking.

Thank you ALL for your replies.....but I think I musta been unclear...
What I didn't understand is not the "THIS IS" part really.
It's more like how come he is saying THIS IS for both negative and positive stuff?
Like I would have thought one would only do "the thrust" for things one finds negative.....like, in a way "getting his frustrations out" on something that he is angry about or so.....
While in the lyrics, it's like it's both for positive and negative things.....

DO YOU RELATE?

have you listened to the song?
hear how he says the different lines
he's giving both quick angry thrusts AND sweet sensual strokes
he's pouring out all of his emotions
letting it ALL hang out
and enjoying the ride

btw, interestingly enough he seems to climax at God
notice the difference before and after

HMMMMM....Interestin.
I shall listen to the song more then to notice this.
And the reference to God I didn't even think about, which I admit is very stupid of me.
Prince usually has some kind of a reference to God in his songs.

THANK YOU! thumbs up!

I read the 'lady' in 'lady cab driver' was Jill Jones...and I always thought the cab was her 'hootie' (as I heard an old woman say once lol ) hence "the cab you used 2 drive 4 no money at all"

she was just givin it up.

If you pay close attention, Prince always reveals a love/hate feeling for sexually promiscuous women in his art. He's so disgusted at 'her' he's gonna tonk some sense in 2 'her' brain.

4instance:

eye hate U
lil red corvette
when u were mine
irresistible bitch

his relationship with Vanity (in real life)
his relationship with Appolonia (in the movie)...

Actually, in the beginning he seems to have legit reasons why he is thumping so hard. Towards the end he's making up shit to keep stroking. For instance, The line about Disney Land and Yosimiti Sam.

lord this is the most interesting topic i've read in a long time. it took me a while to understood what it meant too- but the third time i listened to it- and i heard all the woman's moaning- i pretty much had the idea of what was going on.

i may be naive in many ways, but i'm not stupid.
