Most spell-binding Prince songs Which songs do you hear and regardless of what's going on in your head, it grabs you and you can only think about the song, nothing else?
A lot's been going on with me (well, my family) and I was a little down last night. I listened to the Purple Rain album and my mind could only think of the bad and trying to find my way back out... Darling Nikki kinda started me out of the "blues" I was in... Then "When Doves Cry" came on... and he got me... the song's brilliance was all I could think about... it's definitely one of the most awesome things he's done. It's kinda sad, though, Purple Rain's slowly starting to, gasp, "get old" and I don't get totally sucked in the way I used to. It took me until the end of TB1's and the start of Computer Blue last time... it took me so long to get into this time that I'm kinda worried... either its getting old for me or I've been out of Prince's world too long... had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

"It" from Sign O the Times always hypnotizes me. I think it is the drums in the song. If I am listening to that cd, I always stop and listen to that song. Another one is Joy in Repetion.

I've seen him perform that live and almost had to be picked up off the floor. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

yeah, I've really gotta bounce back. I haven't felt quite like that in a while. Ugh, that's what I get for taking even a 2 day break from his music. But a good sign is that I was watching VH1 Classic today and he totally had me in the palm of his hand when the video for "Kiss" came on. had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. "spell binding" probably conjures up different thoughts for different ppl, for me it connotes "bypnotic", "moody," or ones that just "take you somewhere" different than the pop/rock/funk fests tend to and for me those tend to be more contemplative, mid-tempo or slower jams (not the one word "foreplay-ish" love ballads like Adore, Scandalous, Insatiable, etc.). a few that come to mind are

I Love U In Me. From the first time I heard it, it did strange things to me. The vocals are thick and haunting. It is simple yet intense. It is subtle and deliberate. I'm still in awe of it even now.

Most of the lovesexy album does this to me... it was my first prince album at the tender age of 11 and it has a special place in my heart. The first few seconds of Glam Slam (the guitar on its own) always make my heart skip a beat, and I can't think about anything else when I listen to it. Its hard to describe but it sort of 'lifts' me away from anything that is bothering me at the time.
Pink Cashmere is also a song that has my undevided atention whenever I hear it because I think is a masterpiece! Its awesome. Sounds like a real man to me...mind if I turn on the radio?

B4 I really got to know him (by coming here, buying his albums, etc.), I found his stage presence spell-binding
and I've used words like intoxicating to describe what I felt. It's kinda hard to define what kind of songs I'm talking about... spell-binding was the best I could come up with. But I'm looking for songs that take u somewhere else, an alternate reality or just inside our own head away from whatever chaos is going on in ur life. "When Doves Cry" tends to do that for me a lot. That's why I can't stand the way they cut it in half on "The Very Best of..." good thing my dad already owned PR and I "adopted" it when I started my collection. It's pure Prince, so that's why I love it as much as I do. had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone
