Stop making watered-down radio friendly R&B... I mean, seriously, why does he bother with half of that shit anyway? It's not like it's getting played on MTV... so he may as well please himself and write something with a little more substance.

I just love how people hate on 3121 still. Its a shame because the album is his most consistent since Diamonds & Pearls. (Yeah Love Symbol is dope, but its not very consistent). In regards to 3121, throw away Satisfied and replace some lyrics on Lolita and Love, and you got yourself a great album. 3121, Te Amo Corazon, Black Sweat, The Word, The Dance, Beautiful, Loved and Blassed, Get On The Boat are all awesome.

Prince knows that the album must satisfy only one person, and that is himself.

As we've shown time and time again here, he cannot produce an album that will please everyone. So he has to focus on pleasing himself (and you can believe his standards are higher than yours and mine), then let the chips fall where they may.

I agree with Anx: Musicology and 3121 aren't bad mind you, and the singles you mention each have their merit (though of the last album I truly only ever listen to "Black Sweat," "The Dance" and parts of "3121"), but the projects are very commercial, geared toward easy listening and IMHO a little redundant back-to-back. Prince could have churned out both Musicology and 3121 in his sleep.

I personally would like to hear him dig DEEP into unusual arrangements, less "loungy" or James Brownish orchestrations and more emotionally exploratory stuff. He doesn't need to swear, doesn't need to be pissed or angsty about everything, doesn't need to fire his entire band like he used to do, doesn't need to sound like himself circa 1987 (though I'd not complain), but his stuff just hasn't redefined standards or leave me wanting to tell my friends, "Man, you GOTTA hear this!" for awhile.

Glad you love it , though. I wouldn't take that away.

I really think maybe he ought to start taking whatever the final product is and going into the studio with the whole band and just re-recording it from scratch. Get some of that live performance feel. Or at least some of that rawness that most of his work in the last decade-plus has been missing.
