"Purple Rain" Prince is definitely one of my favorites.

And why wouldn't he be? He's the first Prince I've come eye to eye with and saw him as the "true article"... aka: musical genius.

I was kinda down yesterday (been trying to bounce back into Prince for having not listened to him in 2 days)... then I recalled diff. scenes from the movie and thinking of him made me smile again.

I Think he's totally awesome.

My favorite 'Prince' is the one who excited the world with his limitless creativity and musicality. The Prince from the period 1985 - 1988. The only period i can compare this to is the artistic blossoming of the Beatles between 1966 - 1969.

Second-best is the Prince who created the "Minneapolis-sound", the man who mixed funk and rock with electronic music and new-wave from 1981 - 1984.

Third-best is the period between 1989 and 1995, Prince sounds not really sure what direction he is heading, an alltough his albums arent real masterpieces anymore, on every CD he at least offers a handfull of great songs, and therefore he is still better then 90 percent of the artists around him.

i won't say I have a favorite prince era... but I do like the PR times. its hard to have a favorite Prince era (for me @ least) b/c one of things that attracted me to him is that he's always growing and changing as an artist and as a person.

Musicology, after I got into it, I found it valuable to me cuz Prince made it to teach people what great music sounds like and how great it used to be. It's full of lessons to teach. and also about life & the state the world is in and stuff (Dear Mr. Man, Musicology, Reflection and Cinnamon Girl are great examples of this).

I feel like there's a lesson he wants to teach with every album.
But these days cuz he's kinda dropped his "bad boy" image, it's like its easier to look up to him and follow his lead cuz he's been so many different places (physically and internally), like he has a certain wisdom that says he's great.

You just couldn't mess with the "Cherry Moon" aesthetic. It was like nothing else that was happening at that time.
