So Prince is playing 21 gigs this August but only in London. Seven at the O2 Arena (23,000 capacity) and 14 at smaller/club venues. These will be the ONLY gigs in Europe this year (and perhaps for some time)...

GENIUS

The stay in Las Vegas obviously showed Prince what a fanatical group of fans he has (if he didn't already know) in that they are prepared to travel 1000s of miles and spend $$$ to see him. He knows that the most expensive part of touring is the actual logistics (trucks, road crew, hotels, flights, etc) so instead of travelling around Europe and incurring a massive overhead, he makes those fanantical fans travel 1000s of miles across Europe (as they did in the USA) to see him at one location (London) at their own expense. Pure genius from a business point of view. He has also considered how to make it really attractive to fans (and casual fans) because 7 x 23,000 tix is a lot to shift...

1. Tickets priced £31.21 is a bargain to see a major artist and anyone can see it. Casual fans might think, hell why not!

2. Having multiple gigs (including the club gigs) over a concentrated period of time means people travelling across Europe can make a mini-break/holiday of it and maximise the cost.

3. He knows that the fanatics will go to at least one gig at O2 and one small club if they can (though in all likelihood far more)

So once again I say...GENIUS!

As long as this cat has been touring, he better have figured something out by now!

ok..here's my thoughts. This is an earth tour of extended stays on every continent. 21 nights in London covers that whole continent, maybe we'll see similar extended stays in one or more locations on all the continents? who know maybe it will be 17 days (just a fun number to use) in Asia? and 7 nights in austraila? that kind of thing.
anyway..that's kinda what "earth" tour said to me. Now I can only hope and pray that the vegas stay was NOT part of the earth tour....or I'm screwed, cause I missed it.

I too hope the Vegas wasn't it for the states. I wonder why when he dropped ATWIAD he didn't try to tour the world over a 24 hour period.
