When did Prince make his guitar play itself?

I was reading through a blog about the NY restaurant Butter afterparty where they said he made his guitar play itself. Has anyone ever seen this and do you know of a performance caught on tape?

No, it sounds more like some people, with no understanding of guitar technique, who are so mesmerised as he stops strumming with his right hand and lifts it away, that they are oblivious to his left hand working guitar strings on the neck of the guitar. Showmanship in the form of clever misdirection.

And, please, people, no threads about how he makes drums or trombones play themselves, O.K.? neutral

I thought about that, but I dismissed it as everyone's seen him do that but I never heard it referred to that way...

Did prince use that concept or effect or whatever for the ending of "In This Bed I Scream"?

you mean that reverb-y thing he does where he can slap the neck of the guitar or wave it around and it looks like it's playing itself? he does that in the aladdin video at the end of "whole lotta love", right?

Mr. Miyagi taught Prince that. "Hammer-on, hammer-off."
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

2 things:

He can either be palying with just this left hand on the fret board.

OR.... he can be using a pedal effect. He did that on SNL when he walked off the statge while the guitar was still playing. It's like a digital effect or something in the pedal that keeps playing what he already strummed or something like that (I play keys so don't know the details)

i think i saw him to do it! at the musicology show in new jersey. he strummed the guitar, placed it down on the stage and then laid down on a chaise. it was hot! he was nowhere near the guitar and it was still vibrating. now i'm no musician so i dont know how its possible but i saw what i saw...

I kept telling my guitar that if continues to do this,
it's gonna go blind.
It told me that it don't care. It'll just play it's music notes on braille.

So I sold it's fuckin' smart-ass.
