Don't you think it's done...3121?

Seriously. 3121 should be done for all intents and purposes. It seems as though that's the new NPG Moniker. That most of what is happening is not really about 3121 the album. But it seems very odd to have almost everything reflective of an album that never really went anywhere and of which all promotion ceased.

Or was 3121 supposed to a new direction the entire time that really had nothing to do with an album?

I have felt this way since the end of the willy wonka private 3121 party. This concept is played out in my opinion. I am waiting with baited anticipation for the next project for a long time. People here are waiting for him to be inspired but I know this guy gets inspired everyday so please tour already (in the U.S) and free the funk minus the 3121 spin.

I never liked the numbers shit to begin with, just when he makes people stand up and pay attention, he drops some mysterious shit. It's like he does it intentionally, just to shrug off the new casual fans he's collected from Musicology.
But I think 3121, now, has little or nothing to do with promoting the 3121 album, like you said, seems more a new direction, for now. Will be interesting to see what comes of it all. I'd like to think he's got some amazing plan up his sleeves! wink

I don't know, now there's a perfume. he may be planning to bring the Vegas thing to other cities. He certainly stretched out NPG, like you said.

Also prince turned out to be more than just an album title.

WHich will be hinted at with 4 months of innuendo only to come to nothing special. He should try whats working for musicians that have been in this business for as long as he has. Communicate to your fans about what you plan on doing. He's been playing the "What's my next move that I am hinting at right now" game for way too long. When I was a kid and saw that the next album wasn hinted at int he Purple Rain tour book, that was cool....now it's tired.

Yeah, but what's the point of bringing the whole Vegas thing to other places? Nobody gives a shit in reality, it doesn't mean anything to anyone else, at least stop the riddles?? Only 'us lot' have any idea that 3121 is the Prince show, outside the US, nobody has a clue, or really cares to.

Gotcha. smile 3121 is a pretty vague concept. nod Musicology was much stronger. Schooling people on the nature of real music is something he could have stretched out longer, but 3121 is kind of "huh?"

if he REALLY wanted to keep this 3121 machine going, he'd be releasing more singles....BETTER singles than this ONE SONG SHIT (cuz THIS IS A BIZNESS - thank ya, billy!)...3121 ep singles with alternate/live versions and non-album tracks to keep the listeners tantalized...maybe even a special edition of 3121, even if it meant the only difference was it came with a damn sticker and a shelby version of "beautiful loved and blessed", i don't know... lol

but just running around slapping a 3121 logo on everything and not pushing the concept forward after almost A YEAR AND A HALF?!?! to quote dr. evil, THROW US A BONE HERE, PRINCE PEOPLE! nuts

yeah, it's time for a new album or concept or something. keep rocking the 3121 if it's so crucial...just promote a new album under that umbrella. SOMEthing.

or not. whatever. maybe he just wants to coast on the 3121 album for a while. seems silly to me, but really, it seems like only the diehard fans really care. general audiences just wanna see prince and hear purple rain and they probably don't even KNOW what album is his most recent. and i'm sure prince is well aware of that, and at this point perfectly happy to rest on his laurels. whatevs.

To quote the ONA aftershow, "It ain't ova!" For someone who grows bored as easily as Prince, this is a real surprise.

definitely. the worst thing about trying to keep 3121 going is that he missed the boat. After some appearances before the release he was virtually invisible for months after it was released. He could have played some shows, done some videos, something.

Now it's too late for what was actually a decent commercial album.

I'm pretty sure he is going to try and milk the 3121 business for another six months or so. The whole "Planet Earth" thing refers to a world tour.

I think he'll simply take the whole vegas concept on the road. A one month stink in London, then Sun City, then Singapore, then Tokyo. He is trying to justifying the sell out to himself!

i actually wouldn't mind that. some parts of the world haven't seen him in so long (or ever), i'd like to see prince give them some extra love. plus maybe some of that traveling to other countries will rub off on his songwriting, which could be really interesting.

Its a bit lazy though. His fan base has shrunk, but is loyal, so he makes them come to him. If the London shows do end up the only European dates, I think he is showing a total disregard to his fan base.

I can't really blame him. Touring seems like a real drag after a while. But two weeks in London sounds great.

True, and it suits me, living on the edge of London, but its not the best place to travel to from mainland Europe, and expensive.

Besides, he has enough of a fan base to do another set of shows in somewhere like Monaco or Vienna.

In fact. Monaco would fit in with the whole concept very well.

not if he does other stints in europe and around the world, and does two weeks here and two weeks there. i don't think that shows more disregard than expecting everyone worldwide to go to VEGAS, for heaven's sake.

It he wants to keep 3121 going, then I’m cool with that. However, I think that it should involve greater focus on the music. Even though it may be too late, perhaps he should release another single with SOMETHING SPECIAL as a b-side. At least, on some level, that would make it more appealing to his core base of listeners. Live music is probably the best choice. For instance, a live version of the single, or a live version of a more classic Prince song, just something. He’s Prince, so he has earned the right to do whatever he wants… but damn!

isnt 3121 considered a "trip" ?

He certainly hasnt been using Vegas to promote the 3121 CD. Hasn't it become
a sort reference for an idealogy of a coming together musical gathering ?

I like the mystery of 3121...just think it needs to be communicated, marketed more...more hints at what it's about...a spiritual enlightment of heaven's utopian playground
